It Came from Beneath the Bed! (Tales from the House of Bunnicula Series #1) by James Howe, Brett Helquist

Determined to be a famous writer like his Uncle Harold ("author" of the Bunnicula series), the clever, brave, sensitive, and perhaps a tad hyperbolic dachshund Howie tries his hand at a tale of terror and triumph. Starring himself as the wise, courageous, intelligent, wire-haired dachshund puppy who saves the world from a rampaging stuffed koala bear that emerges from the disgusting clutter under Pete Monroe's bed, Howie's first book is a hilarious success -- and a case study in writing do's and don'ts. Alternating between chapters from his developing saga and entries from his own writer's journal, Howie's new venture is full of the trademark humor and mayhem that has made the Bunnicula books beloved by children everywhere.

About the Author

James Howe is the author of more than ninety books for young readers, including the modern classic Bunnicula and its highly popular sequels. In 2001, Howe published The Misfits, the story of four outcast seventh-graders who try to end name-calling in their school. The Misfits is now widely read and studied in middle schools throughout the country, and was the inspiration for the national movement known as No Name-Calling Week (, an event observed by thousands of middle and elementary schools annually. There are three companion novels to The Misfits: Totally Joe (2005), Addie on the Inside (2011), and Also Known as Elvis (2014). Howe’s many other books for children from preschool through teens frequently deal with the acceptance of difference and being true to oneself. Visit him online at

'It came from beneath the Bed' is a really good book. They are funny too because it's supposed to be a wired- hair daschaund puppy named Howie Monroe, introduced in Howliday Inn, writing the stories 'Tales from the house of Bunnicula' and they so cool. You don't want to put the books he writes down. I totally reccomend this book.

Beware! It's another frightfully funny "Tale From The House of Bunnicula," James Howe's silly, dog-narrated chapter book thrillers for grade-school kids that tickle funny bones instead of rattling them. In this installment, little Howie, the wirehaired dachshund puppy, yearns to be a writer like his uncle Harold, who previously narrated the best-selling chapter book "Bunnicula" (about a sweet furball they thought was a vampire bunny).
