1851 – For Cecilia, romance and mystery collide at her family's glittering London ball on the eve of their jewelry auction
Cecilia Paring has serious reservations about marrying her fiancé, Devin Montlake. Gone is the boy who could capture her heart with a word or a glance and in his place is a man who has made it clear that to be a proper barrister's wife, the exciting and impulsive Cecilia must change as well.
Devin Montlake has his life planned out...
Although Devin Montlake loves his orderly life as a barrister, he's determined to follow his roadmap to achieve his goal of becoming a judge. His biggest obstacle seems to be convincing his headstrong fiancée to fulfill her social obligations with a modicum of propriety.
And then everything goes wrong...
When Cecilia's mother's jewelry collection is stolen the night before it is to be auctioned off and Devin is framed for the crime, he discovers that following his much-loved rules won't solve this particular problem. He'll need the inventiveness of his irrepressible fiancée to catch the thief.
Note from the author:
My books aren't edgy or stomach-churning. If you're looking for something dark and twisty, go elsewhere. If you're looking for something to take your mind off the world for a while and leave you feeling a bit better about life, then this is the book for you!
+ This is not a cliffhanger. Each book's hero and heroine have their own complete romance and HEA (happily ever after). Characters from the books will reappear throughout the series but in supplementary roles.
++ The romance scenes in this book are explicit, but not frequent.

Sheridan Jeane has a wonderfully written tale, which harbors creativity and terrific character development. Jeane almost has a poetic vibe to her words and the rhythm with which she carries the story. It is clear that she has a profound knowledge of history and a lot of research went into her story. Some of the long-time acquaintances were very quick to judge, given Devin’s title as Barrister and that was a bit disconcerting, especially as it was not explained well. The pace is very fluid and quick and in some instances, this could have hindered perception and understanding. This is the first installment in the Secrets and Seduction series. It Takes a Spy...by Sheridan Jeane is a fast paced story and a fairly quick read. This would be a perfect choice for historical romance fans that have limited time for reading. Ms Jeane has crafted a well written book. This is my first book by this author and I am happy with my choice. Cecilia and Devin's story is loaded with drama, action, humor and sizzle along with a fun and lovable cast of characters. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Sheridan Jeane in the future. It Takes a Spy... is book 1 of the Secrets and Seduction Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I purchased a copy of this book at a book signing.
OMG I read this a couple months ago and it was SO stinkin' CUTE! What a great story! I picked it up because I'd read another book by this author, and because it's a novella, not a full-length novel. I was looking for something to read on an airplane, so this was perfect. I loved the characters, and I loved the fact that even though they were in love, they saw each other for who they really were. I found this refreshing - there are too many stories out there about "perfect" people. Bleerg. If you're looking for a lite, fun read, this is the book for you.
'It Takes a Spy' by Sheridan Jeane is the first book in the "Secrets and Seduction" series. This is the story of Cecilia Paring and Devin Montlake. Cecilia is engaged to Devin who has been a childhood friend. Now Devin is as a barrister who has plans to get a Judge. Cecilia has her doubts that she will be able to fit in with the other wives and also be the wife that she thinks Devin wants. To add to her doubts he has asked her to take behavior classes. Although Devin says it is to help her deal with the other wives/people who may judge her. Devin seems to live a orderly life with everything pretty much planned out. Devin does want to marry Cecilia but has had a few small doubts. While at a party Devin is accused of being a thief and a necklace has been found in his pockets. Cecilia has taken the lead at the party to get him away from the police and people trying to question him. Cecilia knows that he would never take anything...much less something from her family. Now Devin's plans are taking a turn.... This was a really great book where you grow with Cecilia and Devin as they become more solid in their relationship. I loved the secondary characters too. I just can't wait to read more by Ms. Sheridan!! "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."
