It's a Curious Life

Anthony Hindson's 1999 debut Wind in Hare Music release, It's A Curious Life, contains ten original songs that, in his own words, represent "the fruits of ten years work." Anthony Hindson, who's principle instrument is a thirteen-stringed guitar, called upon an all star roster of collaborators and friends to assist him in realizing these compositions. These musicians include tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, ghatam player Vikku Vinayakram, one-time Frank Zappa bassist Scott Thunes, double violinist Shankar, vocalist Jack Bruce, arranger/flautist John Good, pianist Mark Robertson, vocalist Deborah Winters, and drummers Gary Husband and the venerable Tony Williams. From the upbeat articulations and driving pulse of the song "Strewth," to the elliptical and contemplative "Sunjog Variation," Hindson and his friends manage assemble an eclectic blend of intricately arranged, expertly played and fundamentally grooving songs. Unlike many superstar jazz-rock-world releases that feature individual virtuosity at the expense of quality ensemble playing and interesting song structure, Hindson and the collaborators on It's a Curious Life manages to keep their egos in check for the sake of the music.
