My 7 year old granddaughter loved this. She and her 8 year old sister have read several books from the Amber Brown series and really enjoy them.
This story carries a serious message about accepting people as being what and who they are, but it also has a lot of bouncing off the wall silliness typical of six-year-olds.
The illustrations are simple and colorful, and range from very cute to downright wacky, perfectly fitting the mood of each page.
But the reason I fell in love with this book is the interesting puns and play-on-words jokes included in the story. They are varied enough to keep older children amused, and younger children will feel smarter and smarter as they gradually catch new ones each time this story is reread.
This is one of my favorite books for this age group, or even a bit older. It also has the advantage that Amber does get older in other books, meaning a child can keep returning to this lovable character year after year as they grow from child to pre-teen and beyond.
The characters are Amber Brown, Justin, Aunt Pam, Mom and Dad. The main event or idea is to get her friend Justin to come to her house on time. I like it because they like pizza and when they tell jokes. I wish her pig could talk and fly. You should read this book because it is funny
