Jackpine Savages by T. K. O'Neill

T.K. O’Neill received national recognition from the 2014 National Indie Excellence Awards for Jackpine Savages—hard-boiled detective fiction in the tradition of Ross MacDonald and Robert B. Parker, set on the rugged north shore of Lake Superior.

Carter Brown always wanted to be a private eye. Thanks to an inheritance from a well-to-do uncle and a mail order P.I. diploma, he realized the dream. When word spread of a homegrown P.I. in the backwoods of northern Minnesota and Carter landed his first case, Brown Investigations was born. Before he could cash his first check for services rendered, Brown found himself locked up on a murder charge, wondering what the hell happened.

And that was just the beginning.

Very entertaining--love the dialogue, not many do it as well. Hope more Carter Brown to follow.

Once I started reading "Jackpine Savages" I couldn't put it down. I couldn't wait to get back to it. Immediately the writing pulls you in. The way the writer describes things, you feel like you can visualize everything perfectly. All of the characters are very flawed but you still find yourself liking and connecting with them. I cared what happened to them. Carter Brown is a mail order private dick who enlists his buddies to help him find a murderer. This book has it all. Suspense, drugs, alcohol, murder, conspiracy, and even a little rock and roll. But it also had me laughing. The wit and sharp tongue relationships between the friends have you feeling like you know them personally. O'Neill is a great writer! It flows so easy and clean you are instantly hooked. I recommend this to anyone who likes a good crime novel. I also recommend it to those who don't because the writing is just THAT good.
