Jaded is another nice addition to Kenya Carlton's resume with its perfect mix of romance and suspense. From the first page to the last the reader is drawn into the present world and the past that the author beautifully weaves together. You'll be on the edge of your seat waiting for justice to be served and for the sexual tension between Mia and Gabe to be fulfilled. The present day heroine of Mia may look like a pushover with her supermodel looks but she can kick butt with the best of them. She's smart and not willing to let the bad guy win no matter how much influence they have. Gabe is a great match for her and their sexual chemistry is off the charts. The banter between them was witty, entertaining, and showed off their sexual chemistry even more. Not only did I enjoy Gabe in his interactions with Mia, I enjoyed him on his own. He's sexy and rugged and everything a hero should be. The mystery in this story is well-handled and the flashbacks related to it are perfectly woven throughout the story. The ghost of Jade is an intriguing character on her own and added an exciting dimension to the story. Adding even more interest to the story are the villains. The Mayor and his son are manipulative and overbearing and I felt like hissing whenever they came on the scene and that's the kind of satisfying reaction you want towards the villain. This story sucked me in from the start and moved at a pleasant pace mixing the past and present perfectly. Kenya Carlton has created an entertaining story with memorable characters, both alive and dead. Not only romance fans but fans of mystery and the paranormal will find something to make them happy in this satisfying story and I look forward to what the author gives us in the future.
I loved the aura that surrounded this story. It had a gothic feel to it. The way Mia attacked the overwhelming hurdles that suddenly appeared in her life gave reference to Ms. Carlton's idea that Mia is a strong and independent woman. I also thought it was great how the author shows Gabe as being the "bad boy" in the small town even as we as readers got to see inside his heart to the love he had for Mia. Add in the steaminess of the romance, the ghost who means to get her mystery solved, and a politician willing to go any distance to get the agenda he has planned and you will find yourself involved from the first page to the last with the book entitled Jaded.
