About the Author

Liz Detloff grew up in Seattle Washington and attended Western Washington University in Bellingham and earned a degree in education. She has been teaching for thirty-four years and is currently teaching in Monroe. Liz and her husband, Dan, live in Snohomish, and their children all went in to the teaching profession. Meggie teaches high school math in Montana; Sara teaches family consumer sciences in Washington, and Jake taught third and fourth grade in Nevada. After the unexpected death of their son, Jake, in November 2012, she wanted something for her girls to have that would be a constant reminder of the fun-loving, talented, and goofy brother they so dearly missed, as well as something to pass on to their children reminding them of their sweet Uncle Jake.
