Overview

Japan Just for You will help you to create your own trip to Japan instead of doing someone else's 'must-see' itinerary. Starting with your ideas and expectations, you are guided step-by-step through planning, developing a realistic itinerary and budget, and then putting the plan into action. Following these steps will make for a successful trip to Japan.

There is an extensive and carefully selected list of Useful Information Sources and practical advice on how to do everything from working out your daily budget, choosing accommodation that suits you, to how to catch trains, buses and taxis. Japan Just for You has what you need to know about:

what to look for when you book accommodation
whether a JR Pass is worth it for you
what to expect when you arrive in Japan
your options for getting around
how to maximise your time in Japan
travel mistakes to avoid

Learn how to put your trip together, including how to make choices and decisions on your itinerary. There are some extremely popular and world-famous places which you may want to visit, or you may want to see the less-explored regions, or perhaps a bit of both. It's completely over to you to choose where to go. Japan Just for You will help you plan a practical itinerary that fits your budget and meets your personal objectives. You'll be able to work out how to see the places you want to see and do the activities you want to do, so that your trip leaves you with lasting personal memories.

About the Author

Denise Stephens is an Australian and New Zealand dual citizen who has travelled widely in Asia, Europe, the Pacific and North America. She has always enjoyed travel planning, starting with an 18 month round-the-world trip in her early 20s. Japan is her favourite country and she has travelled there regularly in recent years. Denise's career background includes time as a research librarian for business and specialist libraries and more recently as a project manager. As a research librarian, she gained experience in finding information and, more importantly, in evaluating its quality and usefulness. Being a project manager gave her skills in planning work and managing implementation to achieve a specific goal. She has applied these skills not only to work, but also to planning travel. When discussing travelling in Japan with people, Denise heard from many people that the standard tours didn't quite fit. They wanted to go somewhere specific and wondered how to get there. Travel guidebooks which emphasised what to see over how to organise travel didn't help either. Even the larger guidebooks didn't cover everywhere, while containing a lot of detail that readers needed to wade through. Lists of "must-do" or "top 10" sights were contradictory and confusing, and left people worrying that they were missing something. These conversations led to Denise writing Japan Just for You as a way of passing on her experience so that others could create their own personal trip to Japan.
