You’re going to need a bigger coffee table. Now this is a cool way to do a “making-of” book. Instead of interviewing the stars, the director, or following the studio’s lead concerning the production, this book pulls it’s info from eyewitness account from all the people who lived on Martha’s Vineyard during the filming of Jaws. It turns out that virtually all of the island’s small community was involved, or at least affected by, the filming of the blockbuster classic. What’s especially of interest to any Jaws fan, is the unprecedented access this allows into the making of such an important movie. There are hundreds of photos in here, none of which I have ever seen before. Many stories I had never heard and anecdotes from the real people who were there. I found it fascinating to hear about islander’s impressions of the lead actors, the film’s strangely young new director, or the constant circus a Hollywood production brought to the humble community. I’ve read a number of behind-the-scenes books, but this one is unique, and definitely one to be treasured by fans of the film.
