The wedding's off but the honeymoon is on...

Promise Harbor Wedding, Book 1

Devon can do this. She can show up at her ex-boyfriend Josh's wedding, even though he's marrying her ex-best-friend. She can show everyone she's happy with her fabulous life in Boston, her great career, her amazing shoes - and she can show everyone she's over him.

Truth is, her life isn't so fabulous. She's just been downsized out of her job, her Jimmy Choos won't pay her mortgage, and...she's still heartbroken that Josh chose family over her. The real reason she's enduring this wedding is that her next stop is nearby Greenbush Island, her last hope of finding a new job.

Josh knows marrying long-time friend Allie will make everyone happy after the rough time their families have been through, and since the woman he really wanted to marry chose her career and big city life over him-why not?

But the perfect wedding turns into a perfect disaster when Allie leaves him at the altar for another man. He never saw that coming! But hey, Devon's there, offering to help him look for Allie on Greenbush Island, where he'd planned their honeymoon. Only, all they find there are their old feelings for each other and a temptation to risk their hearts one more time...

Warning: This book contains a firefighter hot enough to ignite flames, a woman who doesn't want to get burned again, a honeymoon suite but no honeymoon, and sex not on the beach (sorry).

I am a fan of Kelly Jamieson and when I read about this book and the series it was a part of, I knew I had to grab it. The series sounds like so much fun, with a whole mess of emotions thrown in. I really like the fact that four authors are collaborating and writing this series, one book each, about the events that go on during the same time period. It’s not like the other authors let Kelly write the first book, read it and then figured out what they could do with the other characters. No, they are all writing about what happens when a groom is jilted at the altar and what happens in the following couple of weeks. I can’t wait to read about Jackson and Hayley, Greta and Hank and Allison and Gavin. Now onto this book, Jilted, I laughed so hard and I cried just as hard. I love it when that happens. I can’t imagine how it felt to be Devon. She was abandoned by her mother as a child. Her father basically closed in on himself, leaving her primarily alone. She only had her best friend Allie and her family. Then came Josh, but when his family needed him, he left her too. She was crushed. Strolling on Facebook she sees that Allie and Josh have started dating. She is unbelievably hurt. How could they? I mean that is the ultimate betrayal. Then Allie calls and asks her if it’s ok. I mean really, what is she supposed to say? So, of course, she says it’s fine. Then almost a year later, she gets another call from Allie, they’re now getting married and they want her to come. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I really hope Ms. Nicholas can redeem Allie, because I really don’t like her right now. Jilted had me on an emotional rollercoaster. I was so into this book, I read the whole thing in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. The struggles that Devon went through as a child, young adult and now mature adult, it seems like nothing will ever go her way. She doesn’t wallow though, she pulls them big girl panties on and gets on with it. I love that about her, even if that was some of what caused her the problems. Josh really isn’t my favorite hero, but he does love Devon. I just don’t agree with him switching back and forth between the two. He did redeem himself at the end and made me love him a little more. Ms. Jamieson has definitely done it again. I love everything I’ve read that she’s written, and I will continue reading her work. She draws you in and has you feeling as though you are there, going through all the trials that the hero and heroine are going through with them. I will definitely be finishing this series. There are some great authors participating and I can’t wait to read their story!

I enjoyed this story, it was a fun and easy read. It is part of a series. Devon's life is in shambles. She just found out the job she loved she was being let go from because of downsizing. She also gets an invitation to the wedding of her ex-best friend, Allie and her ex-boyfriend, Josh. Could life get any worse? Devon tries networking to find another job. She has a lead but the HR Director is on vacation at Greenbush Island, which happens to be close to her hometown of Promise Harbor, which is where the wedding is taking place. She decides to go to the wedding and then will go to Greenbush Island to find the HR Director. It is the wedding day and Josh is getting ready to marry Allie. They have been good friends for years and their families are very close. Some bad things happened within their families that brought them together as a couple. Josh is the type to always do the right thing, even if it means marrying a girl who isn't his true love. That true love would be Devon, the one who broke his heart a year ago, and Allie's ex-best friend. Devon wouldn't move back to Promise Harbor from Boston when he needed to be back home to help out his family, so he left brokenhearted. Now Josh and Allie are getting married. Allie shows up for the wedding drunk. As the ceremony starts, Allie's ex-boyfriend, Gavin shows up. He is still in love with her. Allie ends up leaving with Gavin leaving Josh jilted at the alter. Josh is conflicted. He is not sure if he really wanted to marry Allie anyways but he is worried about her. Should he go find her? He ends up talking with Devon, whom he realizes he still has feelings for. She finds out that Josh and Allie were going to go to Greenbush Island for their honeymoon. This is the place Devon needs to go to find the HR Director. Devon convinces Josh he should go to the island looking for Allie in case she shows up there and she will go with him. This was my favorite part of the book. It was funny, sweet and filled with longing between Devon and Josh. In the end, after some soul searching on both ends, Josh and Devon get their happy ever after.

A little slow and too much mind dialogue but cute story and ended well. I might buy the next in this series if I can't find anything better to read.

This is the first book in the Promise Harbor Wedding series that will set the stage for a few romances. I really loved the characters, which made me laugh and had me wanting to find out what would happen next. I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in the series. Devon has not been home for quite a while, and had no intention of accepting the invitation to the wedding of her ex-boyfriend, who is to marry her ex-best friend. But when Allie calls and asks if she will be there she has no excuse to give her as to why she can’t come, especially after she’s just lost her job. Now, that she’s agreed to go, she has no other choice but to pretend that she has accepted the marriage even though it’s tearing her apart and act like everything in her life is perfect.  Josh has always lived his life putting the people he loves first. Being there for them whenever they need him, and doing anything that will make them happy. He and Allie are getting married, but it’s starting to feel like he’s doing this for his family, not for himself. Josh and Allie have been friends for years and he does love her, but is it the kind of love one should have for his wife. Since the one woman he truly loved enough to marry didn’t want to have a life with him where they grew up he decided he would honor his marriage to Allie.  What no one expected was for Josh to be left at the altar while Allie was carried away in the arms of another man. Feeling sorry for Josh, Devon offers to help him look for Allie on the island where he was supposed to spend his honeymoon with his bride. Neither of them had any idea that the feelings they shared for one another would be reignited, and give them a second chance they never thought to have.

Devon's world collapses around her when she looses her big financial banking job. Then her former best friend and her ex-boyfriend (who she has never gotten over) are getting married. She is barely holding it together. Josh, the ex-boyfriend, is having cold feet but is an honorable man. He's dreaming of Devon instead of his fiancee and feel horrible about it. Then his fiancee' is carried out of their wedding by another man and he is left at the alter with Devon watching. What' a guy to do but to go on his honeymoon with his ex-girlfriend to "look for his fiancee'". Old feelings resurface, Devon makes a fool of herself and then everything comes together for them. The missing fiancee'? Well, that is a future story to come. No one knows where she's at, but she's with her "one true love".

3.5 Stars ~Reviewed by FRANCESCA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog “This is a cute small town romance story.” ~Under the Covers JILTED started off catching my attention. We have a groom standing in front of a priest waiting to get married and his bride is a bit drunk. Maybe because she’s not sure the wedding is the right thing to do. Then in comes her ex boyfriend to stop the wedding and carries her off. Josh gets left at the altar by Allie who decides to leave with her ex Gavin. But then the whole town feels as if she was kidnapped and it’s so not like her to do this to her family, so Josh feels as if he has to go find her. I guess to make sure she’s ok. But Josh is not as brokenhearted as you would expect. He wasn’t 100% sure about the wedding himself and when he sees his ex, Devon, who had come back to town for the wedding, he realizes why. He’s never stopped thinking about her. This is a cute small town romance story, so if you like those types you’ll probably enjoy it. As far as this couple goes though, they were just ok for me. Enjoyable but not memorable, mostly because I couldn’t really make a connection with the heroine. She’s so closed off for most of the book that by the time she opens up about her feelings and sees the light (and this was done way too quickly IMO) it was too late for me to care. She has issues because of her past. Her mother left her and her dad when she was young in search of a bigger and brighter life. And now Devon is basically doing the same thing. Josh was the perfect mix between a beta and an alpha hero. Almost what a real life guy would normally be like, and this was refreshing and kept me interested. He loves Devon and is willing to put up with the pain she puts him through every time to give them a second chance. But I do think he should’ve made her work a little harder for it. They didn’t jump right into having sex, but it was a little too soon after him being dumped for it to work for me. Even if he didn’t love Allie, he still cared about her and was ready to marry her. Besides all that, Josh and Devon are sexy when they are together. They are comfortable with each other, which is something you get to see only after a couple really knows the other. So all those aspects I really enjoyed. I would’ve loved to see more of the town and the people in it, so I can’t wait for the next book to explore more. Small town romances always have an appeal to me! *ARC provided by publisher
