This symposium represents Jim Evans, Professor of MetallurgyEmeritus and the P. Malozemoff Professor Emeritus in the Departmentof Materials Science and Engineering, University of California,Berkeley, which he joined in 1972. He is the author/co-author ofthree books and over 300 papers. His research deals with ratephenomena governing the productivity of processes for producingmetals and other materials. This has involved investigations ofwide ranging technologies such as aluminum reduction cells,electromagnetic casters, chemical vapor deposition, fluidized bedelectrodes and batteries. His current projects include mathematicalmodeling of the treatment of molten metals, wireless monitoring ofthe electrolytic cells used for producing aluminum, recovery ofwater and copper from semiconductor industry waste streams,modeling of new technology for producing titanium and lithiumbatteries for energy storage in wireless technology.
