Spending senior year with the father who abandoned her is the last thing seventeen-year-old Esme wanted. But when her grandmother dies, she has no choice. The only thing she has left of her once happy life is her grandmother’s antique vase—until she discovers it comes with a bowler-hatted genie. Things get off to a bumpy start when Esme learns that her wishes are powered by Victorian-era magic.
When word spreads at school that Esme is spending all her free time with a cute British guy, she’s busted, and her dad uses his all-powerful parental authority to ground her. Esme falls for Jin just as her dad finally seems to care about her. Meanwhile, Jin’s former master, a diabolical Victorian magician, sends a message through the vase—he wants his genie back.
Esme has a tough choice to make. Whether to use her last wish to run off to Victorian England and save the genie she loves, but she risks a fate worse than grounding. She might be stuck there forever—and incur the wrath of Jin’s dark master. Or, she can choose to grow up and out of magic and work on her relationship with her dad. And she thought having a genie would be fun.

What a stunning conclusion to part one. The author has out done herself. I was sitting on the edge of my seat eagerly anticipating the end but not wanting the story to end. This book has humor but it is also filled with adventure. I love how the tables turned on Esme and Jin as they reverse roles in Victorian society. As they continued their journey in Victorian England I held my breath more then once hoping that things would work out in the end. At the conclusion of the story I released a long breath and smiled. Once again the author has displayed her wondrous talent of creating a story that pulls a reader in and brings her characters to life so that they win your heart over. Karin De Havin has written a love story that is so powerful and magical that it will stay with me for a very long time. Her masterful way of telling Jin and Esme's story has me enchanted. If you haven't read any of her books you are missing out on an amazing and magical journey to find love and happiness. I am eagerly anticipating the next book!
This was an okay read. But beware its really a small novella. Really one book broken into two.
