- Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar & orchestra
- Fantasía para un gentilhombre, for guitar & orchestra
- Concierto madrigal for 2 guitars & orchestra
This CD is a delightful introduction to Rodrigo's art, offering three concertos for guitar and orchestra, including the popular "Concierto de Aranjuez" and the "Fanatasía para un gentilhombre." One might not associate Neville Marriner with the Spanish style, but he brings out the music's French influences, reflecting Rodrigo's student days in Paris. In the gentle "Fantasía," where Rodrigo evokes the gallant world of 18th-century courtly dances, Marriner's elegance is ideal. For the hotter Hispanic flavors of the "Concierto de Aranjuez," the results are savory, too, enhanced by Pepe Romero's naturally piquant guitar playing. Romero is joined by his brother Angel for the "Concierto Madrigal," a sweetly romantic work in the composer's best vein.
