And it was actually a good read. This is very well written, has tons of good detail, is factually supported and is a pretty interesting tale about a present I knew little to nothing at all about. I would recommend it for a short trip, if you have to do a book report, etc.

I was amazed at how much influence Tyler had on this country. No, he's not a Lincoln or FDR, or even a Jackson. But he has a lot of "firsts" to his credit. He was a good president and this is a good book. Just the right length for airplane travelers, well-written too. I learned some things and I was entertained. A nice little biography.

This book was quite enjoyable. I actually read it in just one day; but that is partially due to the small size of the book. I found it entertaining and informative as well. However, I would like to see a more informative and authoritative biography on President John Tyler.

It was, for a small book, lacking in any photographic images although I imagine that it must be difficult to come by, given the fact that this President and his contemporaries were all from the mid 19th-century.

However, I think due to the size of this book and the limited information it would be ideal for middle school students who are studying American History, as well as the other books in the American Presidents series.

I do look forward to finding and acquiring other American Presidents series books. The author is well established and has reputable credentials and conveys the story in a historically correct timeframe, and at the same time in an informal, breezy manner.

Overall, my impression is that it is a good read and you will learn more about this forgotten president.

If you are voluminous reader who wants to know everything about the life and times of John Tyler, this is likely not the book for you. At well under 200 pages, it doesn't pretend to be an in-depth look at this controversial president. I was looking at something more concise and found the book to be very much on-target in delivering a good mix of Tyler's personal life, the issues of the day and his presidency. This is the first book in the American Presidents series I've read, it will not be the last.
