Joint Custody with a Jerk: Raising a Child with an Uncooperative Ex: A Hands-on, Practical Guide to Communicating with a Difficult Ex-Spouse by Julie A. Ross, Judy Corcoran

From parenting expert Julie A. Ross and writer Judy Corcoran comes the fully revised Joint Custody with a Jerk, the highly praised guide to co-parenting with an uncooperative ex-spouse, now updated to provide real solutions to tough family issues.

It's a fact that parenting is hard enough in a family where two parents love and respect each other… After divorce, when the respect has diminished and the love has often turned to intense dislike, co-parenting can be nearly impossible, driving one or both parents to the brink of insanity. Joint Custody with a Jerk offers many proven communication techniques that help you deal with your difficult ex-husband or ex-wife. By outlining common problems and teaching tools to examine your own role in these sticky situations, this book conveys strategies for effective mediation that are easy to apply, sensible, timely and innovative.

This revised edition of a bestselling classic sheds light on how today's digital forms of communication can both hurt and help in custody conflicts, and offers updated information throughout that brings age-old issues into the present day.

Excellent book for those struggling to raise their children with a difficult ex-spouse. It addresses many common situations, gives practical hands-on advice on what to do (and not do) and even has a chapter at the end that advises you on what to do if you have tried everything but nothing has worked. It is an easy read and the prose flows well. A very useful resource.

I picked up Joint Custody with a Jerk with the expectation that it would offer suggestions on how to deal with the moron that I used to be married to. What I got was expert advise on how to talk to my ex, how to adjust my behavior so that I don't sink to his level, how to strengthen my relationship with my daughter and how to develop and strengthen her problem solving skills with her father. This book was full of everyday examples and real life situations. The advice is given in plain English and is easy to understand, absorb and use. I will read this book over again because of its great advice and to help keep me in touch of the real issues in life--raising a healthy, happy child who will grow up to be a confident, self-assured and articulate adult. I highly recommend this book.

This is a great book for anyone (male or female) dealing with a difficult ex. I love the chapters relating to "Who tops the problem pyramid" as it really does put into perspective who has the "issue" and who is responcible for solving the issue and I think a lot of times the custodial parent is the one who unknowingly takes on everyones issues rather then just their own. I have a bit of an extreme ex, so I was hoping for more examples or advice on dealing with an aggressive and willfully non-compliant co-parent, but there is still a lot of information I found helpful in this book and I would definately recommend it. I also recommned "Winning Custody: A Woman's Guide to Retaining Custody of Her Children" by Deedra Hunter, another great book to help you through this process without losing your sanity.

This book gets right to the point. You can't change the way the other parent behaves so stop spinning your wheels. Joint Custody with a Jerk has effective suggestions that are within your own control to improve the situation for your child.

This book from cover to cover offered useful advice on how to deal in a civil manner with your ex and put your child's needs first. I have sent a copy to my one sister in Jersey and now planning to send a copy to my sister in Pennsylvania. Don't be fooled by the title. . .This is an incredible book that helps you communicate effectively and be in control of yourself and your situation.

This book is an excellent 2nd step. Now you have escaped from the other person or the other person has escaped from you and you have to deal. You need to think the process through. How you will act and how to deal with how the otherside will with you. If you used the book, Win Your Child Custody War to get custody, you are ready for this book.
