WoW! This one kept me in a strangle hold from the start to the finish! After all, who needs sleep? I really was drawn in by this story. The longer I read, the more vested I became. I enjoyed the twins and their way of having an argument without speaking a word. I KNOW twins like that, so I really had a good laugh. My laughter was needed, because I had big, ugly crocodile tears choking me two different times while reading this book. I hope Impacted is available soon, as that end has me on edge. I liked all of the active characters in this novel. Of course, some captured me more than others...read to find out who. ARC provided in excgange for honest review.
4.5 Stars I was lucky enough to be able to read Jolted by Alyne Roberts as a late beta. Now technically Trish and I have an unwritten (but often spoken) rule that we do not review books we beta read, but I’m going to break that rule today. Beta reading is different beast, you take different notes, judge a book more harshly, it just isn’t fair to the book or the author for one of us to review a book we read with the purpose of finding every little thing wrong in it. Yet, because I was a late beta reader for this story and because I loved it so much I’m pulling a Cartman and reviewing Jolted. #SorryNotSorry Since I read Jolted as a beta reader and wasn’t planning on doing a review my notes are somewhat incomplete. I only made a note of something when it was so big and in my face I HAD to write it down just to get my thoughts out. All my other notes are for beta reading purposes and wouldn’t really help you out here. But I can tell you this much. I loved Jolted. Even as a beta read, I’d easily give this book 4.5 stars. Ryder is our hero and by within the first few percent I was already in love with him. Ryder is this perfect little combination of hot guy. He is a bit protective, handsome, sweet, and he gives great pet names. I’m pretty sure he and Kallie are perfect for one another, even if it takes them a while to figure it out themselves. Reading Jolted put me through so many emotions. Happy, sad, nervous, heart ache, speciousness, and excitement. There is so much tension, uneasiness, and angst, and yes I realize those words all basically mean the same thing, but it’s the only way to explain how you will feel while reading. This book sucked me in and I read one night till almost 3am. It was so hard to beta read because I wanted to read fast to find out what happened, but also wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything for my beta notes. In a way Jolted reminded me of Wait for You by J.Lynn (Jennifer L. Armentrout), but at the same time, not really. It’s a hard thing to explain and probably only makes sense in my head, but it was there. A type of miscommunication is a plot line in this story, which I normally hate (Trish and I often complain about it with books), but somehow Alyne Roberts was able to do it the right way. Who knew there was even a right way to do a miscommunication complication? So here’s my one warning about Jolted. There is a cliffhanger, it’s big, but it isn’t horrible. The next book, Impacted, will be released at the end of September so you have plenty of time to read it now and get ready for book two. (I hate to rub it in, but I’ve had a peak at Impacted, and … well just read Jolted) . I really can’t say it enough, Trish and I love to promote Indie Authors and read books from new authors, because of this we’ve read a bit of it all. Good, bad, horrible, scary, and amazing. Alyne Roberts is an indie author that I can see big things coming from one day. I was so wrapped up in her story that after I finished reading I just wrote a whole paragraph of my emotions so I could get them out. I also may have made some threats toward Ryder in this paragraph, but they were threats created out of love. Let’s call them love threats and I only make love threats toward characters I feel attached to. It’s a compliment really… I promise. Give Jolted a read now and prepare yourself for book two to release in September. It will be worth it
Jolted by Alyne Roberts 5 of 5 Stars If anyone had any doubts that a tattooed mechanic with a troubled mind is sexy as hell, Jolted will change your mind. When Kallie got the devastating news that her boyfriend of six years was killed in a car accident, her world was turned upside down. Only worsened by the pressure to maintain her perfect façade of the educated little rich girl, Kallie flees. She had to see the site of the crash for herself. After wandering over into the next little town with only one stop light, her old Mercedes decides to give up on her. In the local bar is where she encounters Ryder. His tall, dark, grumpy, tattooed hotness hauled a very drunk little rich lady out of the bar and to his apartment for the night. This begins Kallie's journey to waking up from the haze in which she had been living and to realizing who she really is. New friends help her pick up the pieces of her broken heart without ever asking questions as to what happened. Ryder's twin sister, Scarlett quickly becomes the best friend that Kallie ever had and helps her learn to laugh and enjoy life. All the while, Ryder's mood swings will make a hormonal pregnant lady seem sane!! I love the stark contrast between the personalities of the two who once shared their mother's womb. Going from pristine and perfect to pink haired and tattooed, Kallie finds who she is and what's been missing in her life until she met the twins. I love that Kallie uses every little thing to mold her new life. She realizes what the faults of her previous lifestyle were and strove to correct those flaws. While trying to find herself, she also has to cope with the grief that comes with losing a loved one. Finding new friends who accept you for what's inside you is such a blessing and Kallie was fortunate enough to have hers open their home to her in her time of need. The character development and growth are truly beautiful. Not only did Kallie discover the side of her that had been stuffed away into a closet her entire life, Ryder found that, contrary to his beliefs, he isn't a complete failure and a screw-up. Love is a peculiar thing and it can sometimes sneak up on us when we least expect it. Book two needs to magically appear on my Kindle NOW!!!!!!! *A complimentary copy was received in exchange for an honest review.* Meagan, My Secret Book Spot
