This book is about a boy named Wong Ming-Chung.His Uncle goes to California to find gold.A few months later, Uncle sends money and a letter. Wong reads the letter and it says that Blessing, his brother, has to go to California and join his Uncle. Mother and father do not want Blessing to go. So instead they send Wong.
