Journey To Faithful by Anna Bishop Barker

WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU.............
"I don't have anything to give a good woman, Laura."

Jake Beckett is a man frozen in the loss and grief of the past - a man who accepts that the existence that he has is the penance that he must pay.

"My faith died a long time ago, Jake."

Laura Howard is a woman also mired in the past – a woman who has battled the monsters, but who fears that she may have lost the war.

Two strangers struggling to fight their way out of invisible chains, they must travel together toward safety, freedom and peace.

Faithful, Tennessee is the destination. For both of them, maybe, finally, a home, a sanctuary, a place where they each can find peace.
And in each other, maybe they can find passion, laughter, acceptance
.
Love
.
But the past always follows and evil can find the best concealed path.

And sometimes, the only way out is through.

Beautiful story! Can’t wait for the next one!

Make sure that if you're going to read this in one sitting you need to have your alcohol and tissues (and a fan for the sexy scenes) at the ready- particularly by the 2nd half of the book. The bad guys were really creepy. The suspense was built and left me wondering when I'd get the answers. Journey to Faithful was a roller coaster of emotions, but still left with wanting more of the story. There were a few things that I felt probably would have made it even better, even though I can't quite put my finger on it. But either way, be prepared for the feels.

5 stars! This book grabs you from the very beginning. It still hasn't let me go. Anna Bishop Barker has such an immense talent of using her words to paint the most intensely real people and places. Reading this book is like talking to your best friend. The way her characters interact is so real. It is impossible not to get attached to these people/ Plus, she makes some musical references in the book that make you want to dance while you read. PHENOMENAL!

AWESOME! Anna did it again! She gave us a story that is so powerful, filled with hurt, pain, healing, laughter, love, devastation, revelations and of course, FAITH. Journey to Faithful is the first in a three book series that tells the story of Jake and Laura. Jake is still suffering from the devastating loss of his son eight years ago to the selfishness of his wife (now ex-wife). He has convinced himself that he is not worthy of love and has cut himself off from all emotions that involve his heart. Laura is running from a horrible cult that was part of her mom's life and the truth about the leader of the cult that caused her mom to run. Jake and Laura find their way to each other through all the hurt, pain and danger and finally find their joy and faith in Faithful, Tennessee!

I absolutely loved this book. By the second chapter I was deeply invested in the characters and their lives. I laughed. I cried. It was everything I wanted in a book. Can't wait for the next one.

Note: There may be some triggers in this story; a secondary character was a child bride in a cult. This is the first book of a series, but it does stand alone and there is an HEA. The characters are believable and blend well with each other. The female characters are strong, and are survivors. There is a strong sense of family among the characters. While this is not technically a serial, part of the storyline will continue with the next story. A December release is planned, I believe, and I wish it was sooner as I am anxious to find out about the next couple in line.

When I started reading this book told from multiple points of view I was not immediately hooked. Whose story was it? Then I related thee journey is not just that of Jake and Laura but of all those who have come to Faithful. It's the journey of a man who is haunted by his past. It's the journey of a woman who had no choice of her present. It's the the journey of a man who is lost. It's the journey of a woman who is starting an adventure. And it's the journey of a man who just lost it all (but I hope his story continues). Anna made me laugh. She made me cry. She took me on this journey to Faithful, and I was glad to ride along. I can't wait to see who and what comes to Faithful next.

The title of this book has a double fold meaning. Yes, physically our characters are traveling to Faithful, but it is the hearts and souls of Jake, Laura and Esther that are seeking sanctuary in the small town. Each one is deeply scarred by extreme circumstances. Jake is our reluctant hero, thrown into the mix by his brother Sam, an FBI agent. Sam needs someone he can trust to get Laura and Esther to safety. Who better than his conflicted older brother, a doctor in the community of Faithful? The tone of Anna's second novel is much more solemn than her first (Going Under) there is not much call for levity in this plot line, but otherwise she stays true to her writing style, moving the story along steadily, slowly revealing the demons that haunt our trio. Anna's rich intertwining of our background characters leaves one wondering about them and hoping for more. Kyle and Aponi, Delilah and Sam, John and his children, even Mercy and Grace, all left me with the feeling they could warrant their own stories. Thus, is the sign of a great story teller. I expect no less from Anna than smart writing, epic storylines and steamy love scenes, I was not disappointed. I was rooting for Laura and Jake, hopeful for Esther ( who my heart broke for, I seriously wanted to just hug Esther.) I'm almost positive I am related to Mercy and I'm intrigued by John and what his story might be. Anna left me wanting more and I will be impatiently waiting for the next installment of this series. Take your own Journey to Faithful, one click, you'll be glad that you did .... Anna will leave you wanting more of Faithful, too.
