Book 6 in the Spikes & Spurs Series

She's Got Her Eyes on the Prize...He'll Do Whatever It Takes To Win

Gemma O'Donnell wasn't the first woman to win the ProRodeo buckle for bronc riding, but she was darn well going to be the second. What she didn't count on was her main competition sweeping her off her feet.

Trace Coleman isn't really after a title—he needs the cash prize to buy his dream ranch. But one sexy, determined cowgirl keeps getting in his way. In his effort to take her out of the running, he risks losing both the title—and his heart.

They're Both in For a Little Surprise...

Everybody's world is turned upside down when a pint-sized bundle of joy gets dropped right into Trace's lap...and suddenly all the stakes are higher.

I have always enjoyed this author's books, but I found this story to be more of an education into the world of bronco riding. The title is also misleading, since the baby did not appear until close to the end. I was very disappointed in this book.

It's about time Gemma got hers. I love the rodeo as the back ground for this storey. And of course, a happy ending.

One of the many things I enjoy about author Carolyn Brown’s writing is the way she shares families with you. Brown gives family members zany and fun personalities you can’t help but love and want to know better. Then she branches the families out giving individual members their own story and ties many of the families together through friendships and marriage making for one big, happy family. JUST A COWBOY AND HIS BABY is a fun example of bring two of these families together. Gemma O’Donnell has a good life in Ringgold, Texas, where her family is, as well as her beauty shop. But she has a dream to be the second woman to win the national bronc riding championship. With the prize money she plans to buy her own little ranch and one day have a family of her own. Trace Coleman isn’t interested in the bronc riding title, he just wants the prize money. His dream is to buy his uncle’s ranch. When Gemma and Trace square off in the arena, the attraction between them becomes more ardent than any bronc they attempt to ride. Both are determined to win the title, but the winner could also be the loser. As Trace’s past is revealed, Gemma has to decide whether to focus on winning or fight for her new dream. Brown gives her characters depth, along with flaws and quirks making them realistic. She adds problems, hopes and dreams readers can relate to. She spices it up with sexy cowboys, feisty cowgirls, and enough steamy romance to warm you on the coldest of days. Brown’s writing holds you spellbound as you slip into the world of tantalizing cowboys, spirited cowboys, and love of family with a lot of fun added in for good measure. While JUST A COWBOY AND HIS BABY is a stand alone read, by following the Spikes and Spurs series as it unfolds you get a better understanding of all the family structures. In addition, the characters become friends you watch grow and evolve from book to book. For a spicy hot read, be sure JUST A COWBOY AND HIS BABY is at the top of your list. FTC Full Disclosure - I requested this book and it was sent to me by the publisher in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review.

This review was first posted at Reading Between The Wines Gemma O'Donnell is a bronc riding, cowgirl tough hair dresser with guts and something to prove. She's determined to win that million dollar purse in Las Vegas and show the Pro Circuit that she's got what it takes to win in a male driven field. However, she's got this sexy cowboy trying to throw her off her track with his flirty comments and supposedly innocent touches. Trace Coleman is driving her crazy in lust, and eventually the two strike up a friendship after he rescues her from an ill fate when Gemma is drugged at a dance. That friendship leads to ridin' of a different kind when they're not trying to last their eight second ride on the back of a horse. Even as feelings develop the two struggle with their worries over winning the purse in Las Vegas, and if the other is just trying to use the sexual relationship to trip up the other into making a mistake in the arena. While trying to work through their feelings a baby is dropped unexpectedly into Trace's lap from a one night stand he had a while back and then regretted. Trace is terrified of loosing Gemma, and clueless as to what to do with a baby. Will Gemma stick by his side when he needs her more than ever? Or will Gemma cut him loose for a carefree life in the arena riding broncs? I liked the feisty Gemma. Not every woman is cut out to try and make it in men's fields, but you sure as hell have to love the ones who are! Gemma is one of those women. Trace is a sensitive, sexy cowboy that if possibly existed in real life would have to worry about my watching him strut in tight fittin' jeans while I drooled. Alas, Trace isn't real, so you'll just have to read this book and enjoy him there instead. It's a four wine glass toast to Just A Cowboy and His Baby, and I know sure as shootin' that you tough cowgirls are gonna melt for both the cowboy and the baby.

Just A Cowboy and his Baby by Carolyn Brown, 3 STARS I like the plot and the characters Just A Cowboy and his baby. Did not like the swearing and all the sex and sex talk. Thier was a lot of this story I just skipped over. I liked the humor. That Gemma was riding bronks in the rodeo. Thing that made me mad was the guy putting the drug in the drink. Gemma O'Donnell is a hair dresser who just started riding full time as a rodeo Bronc riding. Her goal is to be the second bronc riding champion. Gemma comes from a big family and she is the youngest in her family. She has to wear her lucky pink cowboy boots and a few other things that bring her luck. Her sister-in-law told her fortune that she would get a cowboy and a baby for christmas. Trace Coleman is leading so far in money and standings. He plans to win the National bronc riding in Vegas this year and with the purse buy his Uncle's ranch. Trace has been watching Gemma for awhile but has not met her or competed against her till now. He makes a mistake by helping her climb into the shute. Then Gemma blows him a kiss. She has a hard time getting her mind in the game. Neither one wants the distraction to get in thier way. Then at a dance after the rodeo someone drugs her drink right after she drinks it Trace asks her to dance. After her two beers she is drunk and Trace takes her to his trailer when he can't get her to wake. He realizes she must have been drugged so he watches her instead of putting her in her trailer. After that they start following each other to rodeo to another and come close fast. I like Gemma's personality. I would love to see if Trace's cousins have thier own story. I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley. 12/01/2012 Pub Sourcebooks Casablanca
