--Bixler Reviews on the Detective Madison Knight series
Sometimes cold cases are deadly...
The past threatens the future and puts Detective Madison Knight's life in danger.
A cold case pits Madison against the Russian Mafia, but things take a swift turn when the unthinkable happens-a new threat arises and has Madison hunting down an unknown killer.
While trying to make sense of the clues, bodies are piling up, and the brass is hungry for explanations. In addition, Madison must balance all of this while nursing an injury, talking out her emotions with a therapist-a bureaucratic necessity-answering to an eager journalist, and facing an internal affairs investigation.
As the answers come together, Madison narrows in on a possible link between the Russian Mafia and someone within the Stiles PD.
Will she have the courage to confront the person she believes is playing both sides, even though they hold a position of great power?
Things are about to be shaken up, and, for Madison, that means she just might have to let go of the past to embrace her future.

Just Cause, was a book I thoroughly enjoyed! Ms. Arnold combines action, suspense and a little romance. Mad ison is a hard working woman that seems driven to vendicate her grand father's murder even though she never knew him; her mother was twelve years old when he was killed. Maddie is such a workaholic that even when she is physicall is physically hurt, she doesn't slow down! This is a book of many characters so you must pay close attention to follow the plot. Ms. Arnold is in a league with the Author, James Patterson and I truly mean this as a complim ent. Wow, it is amazing a young woman is not afraid to take on the Mafia! Maddie possesses many qualities but a bit of a little bit of romance does slowly creep in when her eyes and heart connect with the handsome Troy Matthews. I can't wait to get to read the sequel to see how she handles the mafia threats against her life. This was a very well written boo k and I am so grateful for the opportunity to get to read and offer my critique. Pls try to ignore some of typos as my auto correct had a mind of it's own!
Just Cause by Carolyn Arnold is the 5th book in her exciting Madison Knight series. In case you are not familiar with this series, here is a brief synopsis: Madison Knight is a tough, say it like it is detective in the major crimes division. Madison fights and solves crimes, despite the minimal support she gets from her co-workers. In Just Cause, Madison secretly works on a cold case of the Russian Mob that has haunted her since the beginning of this series. She is breaking the rules, because she knows her superiors will forbid her to be working on the case, which has become very personal to Madison. Just Cause starts off with a bang, and Madison is literally moments away from her own death. The mob has taken her hostage at the start of the book, and they play their own torture game, Russian Roulette, with her. Since she never told anyone where she was going, she fears the end is near. Terry, her partner is at his desk, wondering where Madison is, as she is never ever late. Fortunately, Terry gets others involved and just when the next bullet is to be triggered, he comes to Madison’s rescue. Exciting? You bet. And this was just the first few pages of the book. What follows is an exciting story of Madison trying to investigate and get the goods on the Russian mob, before all the possible witnesses to help her are eliminated one by one. This is an action packed story, and with each twist or death, I would be giving away spoilers, which I do not want to do. This is a page burner that you cannot put down, which you need to read. In previous reviews of this series, I have mentioned that this series has some similarities to the In-Death series, with the exception of the secondary characters and the fabulous team In-Death has. Madison Knight stands alone for most of the time, which I have mentioned before, and is somewhat of a stickler for me. She does have a good friend, who is even better in this book. Terry her partner is a little better, but still somewhat annoying to me, but some is Madison’s own fault. I love Hershey, her dog, and at times it seems Hershey is the only happiness for her. Her immediate supervisor has made improvements in how he acts with her, and we do learn more about the chief, who is always nasty. Overall, there is hope for Madison to find some happiness with someone, and build a loyal team. She is a tough nut to crack. With that being said, Just Cause was a great addition to this series. Carolyn Arnold outdoes herself with putting together the pieces of this mystery, and holding our attention all the way through. If you enjoy crime dramas, mysteries, thrillers, a tough hard-nosed cop and non-stop action storylines, look no further than the Madison Knight series.
Just Cause is the fifth book in the Detective Madison Knight series. It is also the fifth book I read in the series. Am I a fan? I must be honest and say yes, but that being said, I write honest reviews. Anything less would be a disservice to Ms. Arnold, her readers, and me. Madison Knight is the type of detective anyone would want to solve a crime they’re involved in except for the criminal. She’s tenacious, quick-witted, smart, and loyal. Detective Knight is a workaholic and could easily be the neighbor you barely see unless she’s walking her beautiful chocolate lab. Ms. Arnold has a talent for writing believable characters. Madison and her partner, Terry, work together well and joke around the way you would expect from partners and friends. There is nothing pretentious about the way Ms. Arnold portrays her characters. They have the same feelings and reactions any of us would in their situations. It is one reason the book pulls you in and keeps you turning page after page, but not the only one. Ms. Arnold’s descriptions of characters and places are clear. The reader is never left wondering what the characters are doing or where they are. Whether Madison is in the office discussing a case over bad coffee or racing to a crime scene, the reader can picture what she is doing. The plot is unusual. It is rich and flows. Madison not only faces the Russian mob, police station politics, possible corruption, her emotions, but also the loss of some of her memory. Will she recover it in time to save her career and solve the case? You will have to read the book.
‘Just Cause’ is a gripping, emotional roller coaster through the inner workings of the Russian Mafia and one hardnosed cop’s steadfast determination to get justice. Detective Madison Knight, a favorite of mine from Ms. Arnold’s previous works, is at it again as she risks her own life in her ongoing battle with illustrious Russian mob boss Dimitri Petrov. Though he’s behind bars this time, he remains her greatest foe as she launches into a five-year-old cold case–the murder of Petrov’s lawyer Bryan Lexan. Her pursuit of the truth will land her behind the wrong end of a gun in more than one instance, and this time it may be her last. Madison squares off not just with Russian thugs in this fast-paced thriller, she also succumbs to her own fears and personal demons. In true Madison fashion, she pushes everyone she loves away for the sake of maintaining her cool, but even her stubborness won’t sustain her for long. Enter a sexy SWAT team officer and we see our Maddy coming beautifully undone. I can’t wait to watch this romance heat up in the next book, along with what might be the deadliest threat Madison has ever faced.
