Heavenly place. A female character who is taking time out in relationships. Male protagonist that besides seductive, hides a secret. An investigative work and the chance to unmask a scheme in the city. Secondary characters with interesting characteristics. And a completely lovely dog. Mix it all together and we'll have a great book, right? Not so much. The plot begins with Penny waiting for her luggage in the wake of the airport. As she tries to untie the knots on her headset comes across Russ, who offers to unroll it. A physical attraction immediately arises between the two, however as Penny only gets failed relationships she finds herself on a diet of men, an idea she has drawn from an article in a women's magazine. Although they talk and even flirt, she does not give her phone. She then picks up her luggage, says goodbye and then the story really unfolds. Russ watching as she leaves, realizing that by mistake she has his suitcase, which by the way are identical. He's in town on the job, goes to her address, thanks to the data inside her suitcase, and gets a date. The beginning of the book is promising. The attraction at first sight of the two at the airport has funny situations and the first meeting, which ends with a trip to the hospital, if you can call it hospital, because of a seafood allergy, is completely surreal and for this becomes comic. After these facts, they end up spending the night together, and fall in love in two days. Yes, two days. And in that period, the highlight goes to Guppy, Penny's dog who stars in the best scenes of the book. The interaction of the animal with Russ is fun and gives the protagonist some lightness. But Russ is lying. He is not who he says he is. Being a private investigator, he was hired, by a local businessman, who wants to expand his golf club, to investigate the city's mayor, and find out something that incriminates him. That's the real reason he's in town, which does not look anything like where he lives. He is a big-city man who lives for work and has no long-term relationships. Penny lives in a seaside town, which survives mainly from tourism, and dreams of finding the right man and establishing herself. From that point on, the plot is lost, in my opinion. Russ accepted the job because his aunt, who lives in the city, was married to the mayor in question and hates him. Then he would have a source of information at his disposal. Except that at no time explains why her hatred for her ex-husband. It turns out the villain is not the mayor at all. When it finally reveals who is antagonistic, motives are never part of the plot. It is as if you need to conclude and have decided on this approach. The introduction of Penny's mother in the end to close the plot did not convince me. Nor the way they solved the subject, unmasking for a chat on the computer. What was the fetish for fur? Terrible. Penny discovers that Russ was lying, they fight, make peace and decide to live today, without worrying about tomorrow. Only they are already completely in love, so the period he will stay in town is very little for the couple. Penny has to decide if this is another case, or whether it's worth fighting for, and Russ has to weigh what's most important. A good plot, which could develop better, had everything to close spectacularly, but got lost in the way. A good book, but that could have been great

Penny Darling is on a self imposed 'No Man Diet' so she doesn't give into Russ' interest when he help untangle her earbuds at that airport. I think fate intervened when Penny mistakenly takes Russ' bag and leaves hers behind when her address on a luggage tag. When he delivers her bag to her Russ is able to talk Penny into going to dinner. A dinner that ends them in Urgent Care. The story takes off from there. The other characters really add to this story. Maisie, Penny's awesome next door neighbor and best friend. Guppy, Penny's miniature horse of a dog, Russ' Aunt Sharon, who is a trip-literally and figuratively and Mayor Jeffers -he's almost too-good-to-be true or is he... Russ already has new career/job lined up after he finishes he last Private Investigative job in Florida. Penny has made it very clear she's not leaving her home. How are they going to make a relationship work.... This is the first book I have read by Nicola Rendell and after reading this book I'm thoroughly hooked. This book had it all-humor, sizzling sex, a lovable dog, and a twist of intrigue.

This was an insta love, fast paced crazy read. Russ meets Penny at the airport and the instant chemistry and attraction between the two sets this quick and quirky relationship in motion. In what was meant to be an affair to remember it's one neither can give up or forget. Russ and Penny are perfect for each other and this is book filled with laughs, fun, hotness and a great big dog thrown in. This is my first read by this author and I got the comedy value, in this love story that was lighthearted and just silly fun, sometimes you just need something less serious and more fun and this definitely is one of those books. I'll be sure to check out more by this author.

This book had me giggling and swooning from the get go. Russ and Penny had immediate, sizzling chemistry. Even though Penny is on a man-diet, she can't resist Russ. And he doesn't give her the opportunity to! This was sweet insta-lust into insta-love and was a fun ride. This review wouldn't be complete without mentioning that "lefties notice lefties" -- and I loved that because, um, I'm a leftie, too! And can we just talk about Guppy? That dog. Probably one of my all time favorite book dogs. There was one small aspect towards the end of the book that really was over-the-top and a little unbelievable that I couldn't quite get on board with, however it was so late in the story, I tried not to let that mar my rating. If you are looking for a funny, smoking hot read -- you've found it.

Nicola Rendell is awesome for bringing us a sexy and new read with Just Like That! Let me start by saying I love our fur baby Guppy in this story. Penny rescued this awesome humongous dog and it was a rough start. He is so lovable and ends up staying in your heart forever. Russ and Penny meet up at an airport. He is on a job and does not come out with it right away in what he does. But who can blame him, he has to keep it a secret in the life of a PI. Penny is sweet and you love her on the spot. She has a big heart and you get addicted to her personality. The day that Penny and Russ spend together gets more interesting (and not weird at all) when they end up being at an urgent care. Why are they there you ask? Well I can not tell all the secrets of the book can I. So you need to get the book to find out more on that scenario. What you will get is some laugh out loud moments and a whole lot of fun with the little twists thrown at you. I felt that this was a “Love At First Sight” kind of romance. It was surely unexpected. What I liked about it was that Russ and Penny were ready to embrace it. The book ran a little long with over 60 chapters. So you will not finish the book in one setting. I took a long weekend off, had a glass of wine (or two) ready, and got lost in this book. My favorite thing about Nicola’s writing is her sexy scenes. They will have you quivering while you read how HOT and STEAMY they get. I definitely recommend this book! Take a few days off from reality and get ready for some yummy romance coming your way!

This was my first book by Nicola Rendell, but it definitely won't be my last! This book had me laughing at loud so many times. The heroine, Penny, reminded me of one of my best friends. Penny is such a uniquely special :) She's quirky, sassy, and sweet. She's the type of person that sees and believes the best of everyone that she meets (this is my bestie! I'm the jaded one lol). Russ is pretty swoon worthy! He's an alpha male with a soft spot for the woman he cares about. I really liked the fact that he was open about his feelings and had no qualms about pursuing Penny. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm so tired of reading about heroes that constantly deny their feelings and do something really bone headed (usually over and over again!). It was refreshing to read a book where the hero isn't completely closed off. Last but not least..... the chemistry..... off the charts HOT! Reading sex scenes in books has become very monotonous and boring. I've started skimming so much because usually it's in and out, boom, it's done. Nothing new, no passion, no nothing. This author is able to make the passion leap off the page. I admit that it held my attention. I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'll here, but I would highly recommend this read!

4.5* Another charming and entertaining read from Nicola Rendell! I'm just going to start by saying Russ is my favorite kind of alpha male- he's dominant but not overbearing, he's caring and protective, and so completely endearing, I just adored him! He made me laugh. He made me swoon. He is pretty much perfect. I loved how he felt and thought about Penny, so unapologetically smitten he doesn't know what to do with himself. "She's not just the salt of the earth. She's all the sugar and sparkle too." Penny is such a unique individual- she's quirky and engaging and really so sweet. She's the type of person that sees the best in everyone, and wants the best for everyone. She's on a man ban, but there's not much poor girl can do when a man like Russ sets his sights on you! Together these two were so unexpectedly delightful and loveable I think I had a smile on my face pretty much the entire time I was reading this book. Right from the start I was hooked. Between the eccentric side characters and the location itself I felt like packing my bags and moving to Port Flamingo, and I don't like the heat and humidity of Florida! With a little mystery, a little suspense, and a whole lot of heat, Just Like That is a totally enjoyable read.

Just Like That is by Nicola Rendell. Do you know that wonderful feeling when you find THAT author, the one that you know before you even read the first word in a book that you are going to love it? That it will completely take over your head and your heart for the duration? Well, I have found that with Nicola Rendell. This is the second book I’ve read of hers. Both books, for completely different reasons, completely rocked my world. In this book, I found not only the two main characters, but an entire town full of people that I fell in love with. And a dog that you will never forget. This book made me laugh, swoon (a lot), sigh (even more) and mostly, just made me happy. Let me tell you about it. Russ Macklin is a private investigator and lives in Boston. He’s on what might be his last job before some big upcoming changes in his life. But for now, his next week is going to be spent in the tiny coastal town of Port Flamingo, Florida. As soon as he gets off the plane he is struck by the sight of a beautiful woman. She is trying to untangle her ear buds. They strike up a conversation and he does his best to get her to agree to see him again but she says no. Penelope Eloise Darling, or Penny, loves her life in Port Flamingo. It’s the perfect little town and almost all of her family is here. Her best friend lives next door. The only negative is that Penny seems to have the worst luck with men. So, she’s on a man-free diet. But if there was ever a guy that would tempt her to fall off the wagon, it’s Russ. I want to take a minute to tell you about Penny’s dog, Guppy. Penny rescued Guppy and to say that he has a couple of little issues would be an understatement. Especially when Guppy is about as big as a polar bear. Circumstances work in Russ’s favor and he gets his date. But it’s not the date you might have hoped for when it ends them up in Urgent Care. But even with all the little blips in their evening, that night is the start of something beautiful. Something neither of them were prepared for. “She’s a fog and I’m lost in her” “Here lies Penelope Darling, who died of a swoon.” Penny and Russ’s week isn’t without bumps in the road. Russ is under cover at first so he isn’t forth coming as to his reasons for being in town. But the job he was on quickly morphs into something else. But then there’s that issue of the untruths he has told. Somehow, these two overcome it all, though, and continue to fall for each other. And let me tell you, together, they are like spontaneous combustion. These two are hot, hot, hot! Nicola Rendell can most definitely write steam and these two melt the words right off the pages. Sweet Penny has another side to her which Russ loves uncovering. “The truth is that I’d go pretty much anywhere with him. Legal, illegal, public, private. Do anything, go anywhere, in one hot minute. My whole body is thrumming with it. With him, for him. You know what I fantasized about? What I’ve always been fantasizing about? You. And I didn’t even know it.” Russ and Penny were perfect. I am so in love with both of them. I am a highlighter and I highlighted tons of quotes. The book was filled with swoony lines. I wish I could include them all in this review. I guess you’ll have to read the book to get more of them. “All day, it’s been you. Since the minute I saw you, it’s been you. I think my whole life, even before I knew you, it was you.”
