Charlie Rockwell's divorce from her rock star ex left her with a broken heart, a mansion on the bluffs in her hometown of Blue Moon Bay, and an empty bank account. Now, Charlie has to generate enough income to keep the house she loves.
When producers of the soap opera, Just One Love, offer to rent Charlie's house for a sizable fee, Charlie's tempted. Only she wants nothing to do with the spotlight or dating someone famous again, and the show's sexy star, Luke Montgomery, has her in his sights. Reluctantly, Charlie agrees to rent her home and vows to stay out of Luke's way.
Unexpectedly, as filming progresses, Charlie witnesses Luke's sweet side. She also remembers her college theater days and love of acting. During an on-set emergency, she's asked to stand-in during a scene, and her undeniable chemistry with Luke impresses the producers enough that they want Charlie full-time.
Can Charlie finally have the career she's dreamed about? And will Luke break her heart, or will he be everything he seems and what she always wanted?

For anyone looking for a clean romantic comedy Just One Kiss is for you. Charlie and her high school sweetheart left for LA to make Rex’s rock n’roll dreams come true while Charlie put her acting dreams on hold. Charlie’s dreams never did come true with Rex. Sure, he became a big rock star losing sight of who he was and who Charlie was and the promises he made her. Now Charlie is divorced, hiding from paparazzi, and having to rent her beloved beach house out to a soap opera production company. The good part in all of that is that Charlie has had a crush on the main actor Luke Montgomery and Luke was going to be in her home shooting her favorite show…plus it would help pay the bills so she could keep her home a little while longer. Good thing for Charlie that one of the actresses did not show up to shoot one day and Charlie got to get her feet wet in the acting world. It was only a couple of lines but it was the chemistry that everyone on set felt when Charlie and Luke were in the scene together. Charlie’s couple of lines led to much more and her real life relationship with Luke deepened. After the show made it to the airwaves Charlie was finally noted as the actress she had hoped to be years ago before giving it all up for her rocker husband and she was being offered a major role in an upcoming movie. How could she not take that dream job when that was everything she had always wanted? That would mean leaving Luke behind and Charlie believed that she also had found a love that she had dreamed of too. Would Charlie give up her acting dream yet again for a man or would she realize she made that mistake once before and look where that got her?! Did Luke really have feelings for Charlie or was it just really good acting on the soap opera because the public were shown how big of a thing Luke was with his leading lady Adele? As I said this was a sweet romance that will give you feel good moments and also moments that pulls at your heart. Charlie and Luke were both loveable and really nice people who both had things that they needed to work through. The question was if they would be able to get these issues together.
5 out of 5 stars - LOVED this novel in the Kissed by the Bay series by Susan Hatler. I never cease to be amazed by how she can write perfectly wonderful romance novels that have the perfect length, perfect romance, perfect everything. I've said it before, but she is wonderfully talented. This book could be read as a stand-alone novel outside of the series, if you wish. I love this whole series, but if you don't have a chance to check out the other two books beforehand, I don't feel like you'd be lost at all. Characters are all intertwined between the novels (which I personally love), but not dependent on having seen them before to know what is happening. Okay, enough of that - let's get to the awesome parts. This story is a sweet romance between two people who end up thrown together by chance - a movie star (Luke) filming in an in-the-spotlight-because-of-her-ex "star" (Charlie). Charlie and Luke's romantic connection was off the charts! There was suspense and romantic tension while they were filming Just One Love - and the way they interacted on and off set, I just couldn't get enough of it. You could tell that in almost all of the TV show lines, there were some truths, questions and emotions carried over from real life (and the author plainly spells out that's what was happening half the time anyways). I so loved Luke for his persistence in pursuing Charlie, yet not pushing her more than she could handle after her marriage with Rex. He was the perfect leading male in this novel, and I was hoping he didn't disappoint. Charlie was obviously nervous and the thought of diving into another relationship after the way she was treated with Rex was a monumental hurdle for her. It's hard to take that leap of faith between love, career, and friends opinions/gossip getting into your head all the while. I loved the way that Charlie and Luke both handled all of those "life" elements, and this book left you with some hope in love and humanity as they both tried so hard to put each others needs above their own. Selfless love, that is how I could describe this novel. I can't wait to read the next in the series, but this one is probably my favorite of the three written so far. It had so much romantic tension it just killed me - in a good, good way. Love to see the HEA, but getting there is half the fun. Well done, Ms. Hatler! This left me with a huge, goofy grin on my face and a million warm, lovey-dovey feelings by the time I finished. Romance: clean **Disclaimer: I have received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.**
Susan Hatler is a queen of clean romance! This is such a great series and I loved reading Charlie's story. Each book in the series can stand alone, but other characters make appearances, as each book is about a different woman in a group of friends. Charlie gave up her acting dream to marry her high school sweetheart, turned bad boy rock star. After a messy divorce, she's healing in her mansion in her hometown and agrees to have a popular soap opera film in her house for a month to save herself from bankruptcy. Luke, a star of the show, is full of good looks and charisma, but she's not sure she can head down the road of fame again, with another relationship. Charlie is someone that I could totally be friends with. For a woman who lived in the shadows of fame for so long, she's really personable and down-to-earth. Right off the bat, Luke oozes charm and he's such a gentleman--it's hard not to fall for him. I love a book with an intense connection and chemistry and this one delivers. I remember a time in middle school when it was "the thing" to watch a certain soap after school and this brought back some fun memories. The story plays out in a way that's balanced with romantic moments, slightly humorous events, and tense situations. There's a good mix of conflict and resolution and I couldn't help but heave a delighted *sigh* at the conclusion, as it is a satisfying read. If you like clean romance with a bit of Hollywood and a beach involved, then this one is for you! Content: mild romance (kissing, vague implications of unfaithful partner in marriage). Clean! *I received a copy in exchange for an honest review*
Just One Kiss by Susan Hatler is another sweet romance by this author. I always enjoy visiting Blue Moon Bay and meeting up the with characters from the previous books. This book can be read as a stand alone but it does help to know the background of the other characters, too. Ms. Hatler can be counted on to write well rounded characters that are likable and down to earth. The romance is sweet but with the complications that life will throw at couples as they begin to fall in love. I do have one complaint and that is that it needs to be edited or proofread again. There were character names that were mixed up and some of the sentence structure could have been better. I was given an eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
