Overview

Just One Touch: A Slow Burn Novel by Maya Banks

#1 USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks continues her suspenseful and sizzling Slow Burn series with the fifth book featuring the men and women of Devereaux Security Services.

Raised in a strict religious cult since she was a young girl, Jenna has no connection to the outside world beyond vague flashes of memory that seem to be from another life. Memories she clings to when the cult leaders discover her extraordinary ability to heal—and punish her. Years held captive and forced to do the cult's bidding have turned Jenna into a meek, timid woman…or so they think. In truth, she is merely biding her time, waiting for the perfect moment to escape.

When a terrified young woman tries to steal the SUV of Devereaux Security’s toughest recruit, Isaac’s anger quickly turns into a strange sort of protectiveness for the beautiful, bruised stranger. But when they are caught in a firestorm of bullets and Isaac is hit, he’s sure the end is near, until Jenna touches him and closes his wounds. As he tries to bring Jenna to safety, she refuses to tell him what danger haunts her or how she healed him, but Isaac vows to do whatever it takes to gain her trust…and her heart. Because with just one touch, Isaac knows he wants Jenna to be his—forever.

I enjoyed the earlier books in this series but this book was repetitive and moved at a really slow pace.

Honestly I love Maya's books. But this one was not up to par with her other works. I didn't really get invested in the characters. As a matter of fact, I didn't much care for either main character. I felt the relationship was rushed and unbelievable. Normally an unbelievable story line is not a big obstacle for me but for some reason I could just not get past it. There was too much of the stuff going on inside the characters heads and repetitive dialogue. I was terminally bored reading this book. I almost stopped reading it several times but I paid for it so felt like I had to finish it even though it was painful to do so. How did the bad guy keep finding Jenna? What has her mother been doing for the last 20 years? What was the awful thing in Isaac's past that gave him nightmares? Just a few questions that could have been answered instead of the 150 different ways the author could find to say they couldn't live without each other.

... to read if you have any iota of sense as it reads like the author gave up on originality and any form of intelligence.

And so far...as usual... the dirty language that this author has her characters expleting is atrocious! Do the characters in M.B.'s stories have such a limited vocabulary? Or does she thibk that the filthy, disrespectful language makes her heros he-men? Its understandable that the heros say "damn" or "hell" but spewing filth is one of the ruinations of her stories! Another is she is sooo repetitious!

The beginning was fast paced and got me excited for the story, but the story went flat for me after the 1st few chapters. Jenna comes from a cult and so she is used to no freedom, so when Issac starts to tell her only 36 hours after meeting her that he will never let her go, she got very overwelmed. I finished it, but the ending was very rushed. Not my favorite, but will continue to read Maya's books.

Where do I begin? This book is so unbelievable, and NOT in a good way. I understand it is fiction, but really? Let me list the countless ways this book is awful (well, I won't list ALL the countless ways, because then I would be the pot calling the kettle black...so may 3 ways): 1. The endless internal dialogues the main characters have throughout the book. They go on for PAGES and PAGES and literally do not stop and my head just wants to explode because I really really cannot stand how the two main characters suddenly act like they have been through an eternity to be together. (P.S. If you couldn't stand this last sentence, DON'T READ THE BOOK. It literally sounds like this. P.S. #2 I skimmed the entire book and do not regret it). 2. The total despair the hero has when the heroine stupidly leaves and falls right into the hands of the evil men hunting for her. Folks, after meeting this woman for less than 12 hours, this man, Isaac, fears he cannot go on living if he cannot find her. Professing his love over and over and over was way to much for someone who just met her. There was a creepy part when he talked about keeping her in a prison, but it would be better than the prison she escaped from. *sigh* 3. There is no depth to the plot. I do not understand some of the reviewers who gave this book 3-5 stars all the while, raving about the twists and turns. We must be reading a different book. One of my favorite Maya Banks book is The Darkest Hour (first KGI book) and I loved it. Just One Touch sounds like it was written by a 16 year old, just discovering his/her first crush. Thankfully, I did not buy this book. I got it from the library. I was forced to give the book a star, but if I could, I would give it no stars.

I can usually think of something good about a book but this one was so bad I'm at a loss for words. The dialogue was horrible, the heroine sure had an extensive language as grasp of human emotions and actions to have one spent time in a cult. The relationship between the main couple was also unbelievable, no-one falls in love that quickly. Ms Banks should have spent more time having her adapt to life and forming a relationship. I ended up skimming most of the book because it was so repetitive in telling us why people were acting like they were. Having random people explain another's motivation just made no sense. And having the heroine climb into bed so soon made no sense whatsoever and was actually insulting to me as the reader. If you are invested in the series then you may want to read for snippets into the lives of the previous characters but other than that skip it.

I'll keep reading her books, but this one was definitely not up there. Overly and repetitively descriptive, not the b est characters. Holding out for the Dane and Tori story!

Need more action and less talking about feelings. Excess repetitive words this has been common in Maya Banks books

This book is boring. Over 3/4 of it are Isaac professing his undying devotion to Jenna. No plot.

Really! If she chose to leave him he would be a classic stalker. Too much I feel you feel we feel...filler. We got it. It's like you are telling us the same thing in several different approaches to stretch the book out.

To give this book such a low rating but I want my money back. Maya Banks is great at wringing my emotions and I normally become super invested in the characters’ HEA but most of this book had me rolling my eyes at their internal and external dialogue. I was almost more interested in the secondary characters and their relationships that I skipped over many of the parts with the heroine and hero. This has to be a fluke for Banks. Anticipating the next book only because I want to renew my faith in the series.

I loved all of the books? Is there a possibility for another one? What ever became of Tori? Did she tell Dane she was in love with him? Did Lizzie have kids with sterling? What about Gracie and Zack? Delmis Arnette

I enjoyed all 270 pages but feel it could have been longer with a little more plot development. How was she consistently located when hiding with the best of the best? Some complain about language but it isn't as bad as other books and it makes the story real. In the real world people cuss and swear and use crude terms...in appropriate settings and these settings fit that. The sex scenes were less descriptive than other Maya Banks books...which is perfectly fine. Looking forward to Dane's story.
