He started reading this even though it was a little above his reading level. He couldn't put it down. He also asked for more books by that author. That's about the best review a book can get!

I wavered between 4 and 5 stars because because I was looking at this from my adult perspective. I thought it was very well written, had enough historical detail and research to be of educational value, and the story was pretty good  and had an underlying positive message. A 4. Nine year old boy with a big sister reads it and it becomes a laugh out loud, can't put it down, "I know just how he feels!" 5 star book. He loved the ending. I really recommend this book for little brothers and big sisters. Would be great for a family book club because it deals with  situations in many households.

My students enjoyed this book because they have already read part of it in their regular literature books. They enjoyed the "story in a story" about Justin's ancestors. They also understood the concept of sharing work and duties and not dividing these things up between the sexes.

This book has exciting parts. If you like cowboys and rodeos this is a great book for you. It also teaches you about the history of this boy's family. I would recommend this book to my friends.
