This book was awesome! Well written. Well edited. The characters were relatable... likeable... honest and well developed. This is a wonderful story about second chances. Estelle has been in love with her brothers best friend, Oliver, forever. As the little sister she is forbidden territory to all of her brothers friends. Her and Oliver have their own connection. Once she is in college the lines get blurred... then he moves away to go to medical school. Life goes on... new love is found... and lost. Oliver has been in love with his best friends sister for as long as he can remember. He has felt like he lost his chance ever sincehe left her to go to medical school. Finally finishing medical school and completing his residency at a local hospital, him and Elle are again reunited three years later. And the sparks do fly!! These two have such a raw... honest... realistic relationship. It was so refreshing to read something that wasn't instant love... it was a once in a lifetime love developed over years of friendship. There is realistic heart break...realistic life problems... believeable issues and actual solutions! An overall great story. This is definitely a must read! I am really hoping we get Mia and Jenson's story next!! There is definitely a story to be told about them!!

Great story. Oliver is my new best book boyfriend. Perfect amount of push and pull with their chemestry. I like that Ella was actually a strong female. I have read too many weak female books that she was a breath of fresh air. I hope there will be follow up books for the supporting cast as well. Very well written, sucked me in from the start and read in a day.

I enjoyed this one. It wasn't anything way out there that was too surprising. It was a very good read, hard to put down when I picked it up, which often would be before bed, making it hard to go to sleep. I didn't know it was going to be a series until I'd finished it. So I guess I'll be needing to get ahold of those books soon! I did get to meet the author when I was at Apollycon back in March as well, you can see us in the picture below on the left. I ended up reading it because I wanted to color that page in the coloring book I have.

Kaleidoscope Hearts is a book that relies on the romance. That is what the novel is. So, I don’t know how I really feel about this because I was a little iffy on it. It’s a second-chance and a forbidden romance. It’s a “brother’s best friend” romance. Which, alright, isn’t terrible, but when I factor in the ages of all the characters, I found it to be a little ridiculous. Personally, the ‘brother’s best friend’ trope doesn’t work when you’re all 30-years-old and are free to do what you want. So when the entire book uses Elle’s brother as the crutch for why their relationship never worked, I l laughed, because that’s not even close to why I think it never worked. Which brings me to my next point: Elle is a broken woman. Her fiancée died and she has been in mourning for a year. This fact alone should have made her a character I felt empathy for, but she wasn’t. She seemed overly dramatic. She spent most of her time when she was younger being promiscuous with Oliver, but they never made any commitment to each other. Yet, she seemed to have lashed out after he left for medical school by getting engaged to someone else. On top of that, Oliver just seemed like a guy that wanted what he couldn’t have. He liked the chase but had no problem chasing other girls in the meantime. He was also very aggressive and possessive with someone who wasn’t even his. I did not like his character. To add insult to injury, a random plot point was added in that seemed like a last-minute thought to make Elle feel better about moving on from her deceased fiancée — he was somewhat controlling. So, why then, does she go to Oliver, who is almost as aggressive just about different things? The writing wasn’t terrible or wonderful. Nothing stood out too much to me except that it was way more sexual than I thought it was going to be. It was almost like when I read 50 Shades of Grey with a sex scene every few pages (but without the BDSM). That became a little distracting. I understand it is a New Adult, but that doesn’t mean it has to have so much sexual tension between the two characters. If you’re looking for a quick kind of sexy read, try this one out. However, it doesn’t have great characters and the plot is a little thin. That’s really all I can say to round out my thoughts on this one.

Against all odds, the heart - even tattered and torn - recognizes what it wants. If we're lucky, and strong enough to continue fighting for it, the heart has the chance to find that what it wants and heal.

Good but aggravating how Elle was treated.

This read is one that envelops you and doesn't let you go until you have reached the end. With the chemistry and background for the two mains you have a story that is amazingly well written and will pull you into their world where you can't help but root for both characters. Elle is a strong woman who is currently dealing with loss and new beginnings. Oliver is charming, kind, and loyal which is what most women want in a male. When you have all the facts from the past and the present you begin to understand the depth of their relationship. The ups and downs. You find a relationship worth fighting for, worth rooting for, and worth reading. "Love is beautiful, shattering, moving, haunting. Love is everything." The Kaleidoscope Hearts is a physical thing in this book and although it is totally fictional, I can't help but want one.

Pretty good, I read this in one day but sometimes it was hard to take Oliver's indecisiveness.

This was a good story about second chances at love. I thought it was sweet and romantic, but I did have a little trouble falling for the leads and becoming emotionally involved. I do recommend it for most romance readers.

This story has all the feels. It rips you to pieces and puts you back together. Over and over and over. It's an emotional roller coaster. I laughed, cried, I felt the heartache. Estelle lost her fiancé and after a year she decides it's time to move on. She's held a lot of pain and grief. But she's knows what's best. Elle has a good heart and may seem a little naive sometimes. But I loved Elle. She's a character that can easily steal your heart. Oliver is her brothers best friend. Elle has always been off limits. But still rules are made to be broken. "I realized that sometimes in order to move forward you have to let go of the past, even if it hurts. Especially if it hurts." The journey these two have is just this amazing story. The writing is just amazing and there wasn't a time I wasn't in love with this. It was book at first sight (cheesey, yes). One thing that I really loved is that you get just a little of Oliver's POV. You pretty much don't know everything, till around the end. People may think that Oliver really doesn't deserve Elle. But in all honesty, we're all scared. Love is a scary thing but I'm proud of Elle. "Love is beautiful, shattering, moving, haunting. Love is everything." he reads. His eyes flicker to mine. "Who defines love?" Claire has this amazing ability to really throw you into the story. I felt all the heartache. I had accidentally read Paper Hearts, which is #2 in the series, awhile back. But it didn't ruin anything. I can't wait for the next in the series, Elastic Hearts....Lissa

First of all thank you so much to Angie and Jessica’s Dreamy Reads and Claire Contreras for the giveaway that made possible for me to get this eARC. Kaleidoscope Hearts is a very unique book, I’ve never read a book that dealt with the issues that this book deals with such a level of maturity and reality. We start the book meeting our heroine, Estelle, she has suffered the loss of her fiancé and a year later she is finally ready to move on and let go of some of the things that remind her of him and what could have been. So she goes to live with her older brother and that’s when she re connects with Oliver, one of her brother’s best friends and a sort of ex of hers. See, the story between Estelle and Oliver goes way back to when they were younger, Estelle had always had a crush on Oliver, but for Oliver in happened later, when he consoled her after a bad day, from then on, every time they met something happened between them, they had a connection that couldn’t be denied. The problem was her brother; they both knew that he would never accept a relationship between them. So Oliver left for school and disappeared from her life for a couple of years. After nursing her heart back to health she fell for Wyatt a much older artist who took her under his wing and groomed her to be a better artist, to not be afraid to break some things in order to make others. Now after she losses Wyatt and is back at her brother’s house and with the people she grew distant from when she was with Wyatt, she sees Oliver again and it is immediately obvious that time did nothing to help her forget him, even though she wants to keep Oliver away, he is now determined to not miss another chance with her and starts pursuing her. What I said before about this book is absolutely true and I could see it in the way that Claire Contreras made the transition between a grieving woman to a woman in love. There was always this knowledge that she wasn’t just coming back to the guy who had her heart first, it was beautiful the way she described the love that she felt for both people, how the loves were different but special in their own ways. Just brilliant! Excellent job Claire Contreras! I can’t wait to read what you have in store for us next.

Another fantastic book by Claire Contreras. There hasn't been a book to date that let me down. We meet Elle a year after she's lost her fiancé and everybody is urging her to move on. Right from the start you can feel her loss and her anguish as she comes to terms with the guilt of moving forward. She moves in with her brother and runs into his best friend, Oliver. Right away you KNOW something has happened between them. I liked that the past chapters gave is just enough and didn't over take the book. I loved these characters and can't wait to read the rest of the series. - "Do you know how shocked I was when I found out you were engaged to him?"....."Why?"....."I always thought you were mine."

Beautiful, heart felt story about a girl name Elle and a boy named Oliver, who after years a part find there way back to each other; the only problem is Elle's brother Victor, is Oliver's best friend. I loved Elle as a character very much because despite the pain she has go through loosing an old love, and rekindling another love, she remains strong and brave, and doesnt give up hope on finding true love for her self. The chemistry and love between the two characters in incredible, and i loved the side characters very much as well. I can't wait to continue on with Paper Hearts and Torn Hearts as well. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future as her writing style is great, and the romance is perfect. Only small downside, i felt the story got a bit slow towards the end, but i truly enjoyed the happy ending this book gave that the characters deserved. :)
