About the Author

While in college, H. Frank Woods worked as an editorial artist for a large Texas newspaper. Later, while painting and living in Paris for several years he wrote travel articles for various newspapers back home and worked on a number of screenplays and movie treatments after returning to the States. In the late 1980's he earned his SAG card and worked as an actor for several decades, mostly in television roles. During this time he wrote and produced several plays in Los Angeles while continuing to write travel articles for a local LA newspaper.
Earlier, during his Army days he was selected to train at the Defense Atomic Support Agency at Sandia Base in Albuquerque and became a Nuclear Weapons Maintenance Specialist. During this time he had his own crew... working mainly on Nike-Hercules warhead systems. It was during his Army service that the idea for this book first took root. Although, it was many years before he had the time to write full time and complete the novel. Sequels are being planned for the Katy Cooper character and new adventure books are on the burner as well.

This is the story of a young girl's journey to awareness as much as a science fiction tale. Katy is no cookie-cutter heroine and you will find  yourself rooting for her as she is suddenly thrust into a world she has never known. And there is mystery - the mystery of her origin  and more... enough to keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. I especially liked the summation at the end that wrapped up  all the events quite nicely... although, leaving you wanting to see what further adventures await (as hinted at the end). A good read.

This is a book that captures the essence of many genres... Science Fiction, Time travel, Adventure and Mystery. Starting with events that occurred 50 millennia ago, moving to the time of the Manhattan Project in World War 2 and then to the present, the scene is set for a very (at times) moving drama about a teenage girl's search for her origins. But don't let the word drama fool you. Although the story is grounded in the life of a young genius named Katy and her foster family, it's filled with periodic action scenes that can leave your heart pounding! This is no wallflower of a girl either! Trust me, she gives Indiana Jones a run for his money! Still, much of the fun and adventure is watching Katy as she is suddenly thrust into a world she has never known... going to school for the first time - her first dance - her first kiss and more. But don't worry. There's plenty of action, destruction and threats to the very existence of mankind to keep the most ardent adventure junkie glued to the page. For mystery fans, Katy has to decipher the meaning behind numerous clues left by her dead mother. For the Sci-fi fans there are aliens, inter-dimensional travel, time machines and much more -  all of it leading, of course, to a final confrontation between Katy and a vicious madman and his psychotic daughter in a place called the Thunder Pit.Full of lighthearted moments, this book will also take the reader down a dark path at times,  and a journey you will not easily forget!
