Richard Rice, investigative reporter, is nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his exposes on Russian Mafia prostitution and human trafficking in the Chicago area. Harassing phone calls, slashed tires and an attempted break-in at his house don't stop Rich's investigation. But when a sniper's bullet nearly kills him, police advise Rich to leave Chicago. He goes off-the-grid hiding out at The Ordinary, a bar in ethnically diverse South Omaha. The Russians look for Rich bent on silencing him forever. Rich thinks he has the protection of the FBI, but it may just be an ambitious young agent who sees a chance to advance his career by dangling Rich in front of the Russians. It all comes to a head in a terrifying gunfight, from which only one person emerges.

Journalist Richard Rice had stepped into a snake pit, exposing the Russian mafia's sex trafficking activity in Chicago, and been shot for his work. He hides out in Omaha, battling PTSD and opening a bar. His circle of trust includes a stray dog, a chef fresh out of prison, and an alcoholic bartender. How long before the crime boss finds him? The strengths of this story are vivid descriptions of places and characters, fast-paced action scenes, and a hardworking hero who defies everyone from the FBI to the Mob.
From the first page to the last I became engrossed in the storyline. To say that there are turns and twists, states the obvious, but the ending is very gripping! The author, has a great way with his writing. He is able to entice us into the life of the man called Keeper (Rich Rice) and the Russian human trafficking mob. Great read!
