Keeper of the Shadows is my 1st Nocturne book, as well as my first win on Goodreads. Read it in 24 hours. Yep, it was that fun. Even with it being the 3rd in L.A. Keepers series, I had no trouble following the story. Barrie is a journalist, but more importantly a Keeper. She helps keep the peace and the secrets of the Others; those who are vampire, shapeshifter, or elven, among other things. Herein lies the one confusion I had that may have been answered in the previous two stories: How does she do her job exactly? I like the idea that the Keepers have only a shadow of the power that the true Others have, but how do they keep from being offed by the first Other they oppose? Now, this is a romance genre story, and that is certainly in there, but it reads more like a suspenseful mystery. The focus is on solving the mysterious murder of a movie mogul and a street urchin. You're kept guessing right up to the very end, and I imagine many will find some surprising twists along the way. Our lead guy, Mick, starts out as a competing journalist. He's another mystery to solve. REST OF PARAGRAPH SPOILER ALERT. SKIP TO NEXT PARAGRAPH IF YOU HAVEN'T READ!!! Who doesn't love the thought of a shape-shifting lover who can become damn near anybody. I mean, it's enough to make you put your book down and ponder... (clears throat-refocuses) I enjoyed the way the characters from the other books were involved just enough to interest me in their stories, but not so much that I felt I missed something. Also, there's good setup for a long-running epic-scale storyline if the series decides to go that route. A well-done balancing act. Overall, it was a dark Hollywood roller coaster ride where you're never sure whether to keep your eyes on the track or the hottie that sits beside you for the entire ride.

A fun read by Alexandra Sokoloff, set amidst the movie industry in LA. I loved the characters, the story, the "other" worldliness of it. Very well done. Can't wait for the next book!

The Keepers: LA series is a terrific collaboration between authors Heather Graham, Harley Jane Kozak and Alexandra Sokoloff. Each author takes a turn writing about the Gryffald cousins, Rhiannon, Sailor, and Barrie as they settle into their new duties as Keepers of various Others in LA. Barrie uses her job as a crime beat reporter to keep an eye out for anything that might reveal the existence of the Otherworld. When a young shifter is found dead, she quickly realizes that there's more to his death than a tragic overdose. The more she digs, the more convinced she becomes that the death has something to do with a movie, Otherworld, and the tragedies that followed the movie fifteen years ago. Fellow journalist, Mick Townsend, agrees with Barrie's theory and suggests they team up to solve the case...only Mick seems to know more about the events, past and present, than he should. Keeper of the Shadows is fast paced page turner that keeps you guessing with all the twists and turns that it takes over the course of the book. I guessed correctly on how some of those twists would turn out, but others threw me for a loop...including who the ultimate identity of the killer was...I did not see that one coming! The chemistry between Barrie and Mick is hot but with Mick's secrets you just never know what's going to happen next in their relationship. I've enjoyed all of The Keepers: LA series, but Keeper of the Shadows is my favorite of the series to date and finishes the Gryffald cousins story. However, there is one more book in the series, Keeper of the Dawn by Heather Graham that comes out July 1, 2013 and is the story of Keeper Alessande Salisbrooke. I can't wait! I received an e-copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Warning: This book has some mind blowing twists, turns and unexpected revelations.  Barrymore (Barrie) Gryffald is the Keeper for Shapeshifters in LA. When one of her teenage charges, a street kid named Tiger, is found murdered Barry pulls out all the stops to find his killer. The same night Tiger is killed by an OD, another famous movie mogul is killed by the same drug found in Tiger system. The connection, the tragic murder of Tiger is surprisingly similar to a 15 yr old death of an famous teen movie star and Tiger just so happens to be able to shift into a dead ringer of this star...The movie was called Otherworld. Barrie keeps running into the gorgeous Mike Townsend, a fellow reporter, during her investigations. The physical connection is immediate, but his ability to discover detailed information about her investigation is worrisome.  As more people connected to the Otherworld movie begin to die, Barrie must decide who she can trust in a world where lies and face changes are the norm. This is a fantastic addition to The Keepers: LA series. Fast paced, action packed with more twist and turns than a rollercoaster, Keeper of The Shadows really was a spectacular read. Did I mention a hot but secretive Mick... Never knowing what might happen next, this story will keep you on the edge of your seat. This ARC copy of Kepper of the Shadows was given to me by Harlequin Nocturne in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication May 7, 2013.
