About the Author

James E. Parker, Jr, a UNC/Chapel Hill graduate, served in Vietnam in 1965 as a 1st Division platoon leader. He was recruited into the CIA in 1970 and served upcountry Laos with local guerrillas fighting invading North Vietnamese from 1971 to 1973. Returning to Vietnam he was the last man out in 1975, leaving two days after the American Embassy in Saigon was evacuated. He continued on in the CIA as a foreign agent recruiter and handler until he retired in 1992.
He wrote Last Man Out, Codename Mule and Covert Ops, and after 9/11 returned to work for the CIA as a tradecraft instructor and case officer in Afghanistan, re-retiring to Las Vegas in 2012. He recently published Timeline: Battle for Skyline Ridge and The Vietnam War Its Ownself.
In the late 1970 Parker was assigned as a CIA case officer to a US Embassy in West Africa. There he joined others at the Bob Kessler house on week-ends for story telling sessions. Strict rules ensued; no one dominated the sessions, everyone was given a good listen, raw humor wasn't appropriate, though rough language sometimes was. Funny and entertaining stories were expected.
Since that time Parker has collected funnies and homilies that would be appropriate fodder at the Kessler house and shares the best in this volume of good stories.
