About the Author

Barb is a freelance writer, corporate minion, over-scheduled parent and connoisseur of fine chocolate. A second-generation journalist, her work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune and its affiliates as well as Mom.Me. Three of her pieces were included in a Tribune Media e-book collection entitled, Love Notes: Stories of Love, Loss, and Coming Together (Agate, 2014). Having spent the whole of her thirties pregnant, she has five boys to show for it. Their exploits provided fodder for her column, The Plate Spinner Chronicles, a long-running feature in the Chicago Tribune, which snagged her a runner-up spot in an Erma Bombeck Humor Contest. A member of RWA's Windy City chapter, she still dreams of the day when her to-do list includes "Send NY Times book critic thank you note" and "Accept Godiva's request to be a taste-tester."

Reviewed by Gretchen Jawurek for Readers' Favorite Key Change by Barbara Valentin is a wonderful romance that involves music, writing, newspapers, coming back from a horrible situation and not falling down the well but changing the situation into something good. Sara, the main character, is working for the Gazette as a music critic, and in her spare time she wins trophies at Karaoke contests between departments. Sara had had a bad experience with family life which led to her making decisions while desperately lonely, which obviously led to some big mistakes. At this point in the book, Ms. Valentin shows the reader what happens when one bad decision is followed up with another bad decision because of a bad self-image until life is a complicated mess. Enter Andrew, the hero of the story, a music director at St. Matthias Catholic Church. He is real and honest and so good looking. But he has had bad luck in the love department, so he is wary. The two of them get thrown together through crazy circumstances which I am not going to tell you; you must read the book. They find out that they are more compatible than either of them expected. And they start to grow close to each other and start to like each other ... and then the situation really gets crazy. Ms. Valentin took a chance making a hero an honest Catholic boy while the heroine is from a little rougher side of life. I was a bit nervous at first about how she was going to handle this. I didn’t want to read another good guy gone bad/rebel without a cause kind of story; been there, done that. But Ms. Valentin handled it very well. Yes, the girl is thinking about the things she would do to him, but she is always jolted back to reality, thank goodness. So, for those of you who want a nice romance, have no fear. Those of you who like a little steam, there is something for you too. Romance readers, chick lit readers, and those readers who just need a change of pace from more intense books, this is the book for you! A wonderful romantic story that has a happy ending! What more could you ask for?

This was an immensely entertaining read. It has a brilliant blend of emotions, from sadness to laughter and a bit of love spread throughout. I found that the author created characters who had depth and a variety of personalities. It was very interesting to read along as the two main characters interacted, as they were polar opposites, but seemed to really click. I was really drawn in by the fact that they were brought together from an unhappy incident, but made the best of the situation. It was great, as well,to see the leading lady step outside her comfort zone and really try something. I liked the pace of the story. I did find it a bit hard to latch onto in the beginning, but after the first few pages, I was completely hooked.the author wrote the story very fluidly, but still gave you lots of opportunity to be surprised. I found the premise of the story very engaging. It drew me in and really made me want to see what happened next. I am not a religious person at all, but I was still keen to see what happened in the church music program, and with our main characters. The supporting characters were done very well. Each had a purpose in the story, whether good or bad, but they always provided something interesting for the read. I loved the characters who gave the main characters support and love, even if it is hard love. If you want a fun, romantic read to enjoy, I highly recommend giving this book a go. I received this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion .

This story has a bit of an unusual plot, romance, music, church, and well presented characters. Author keeps the reader interested while the ending is pretty much what every reader would hope for.
