When life stalls right in the middle of the journey, sometimes all it needs is a Kick Start

Linda Dowling's husband traded her in for a younger model, and she clung to the only life and home her kids knew. Easiest thing by far when her heart was broken and her small town was filled with folks who commonly mistook their neighbor's concerns for their own. But even in Cross Springs, NC, time moves on and heals the most grievous of wounds. Linda shakes things up, goes back to school and--gasp!--starts to date a younger man.

Suddenly everyone in Cross Springs has something to say about her life--and Linda is faced with hard choices. She has tried for years to live up to the expectations of Cross Springs' society, but now she is remembering the girl she used to be, back before motherhood and self-doubt robbed her of her self-esteem. Should she bow to comfortable roles and old expectations? Or should she give herself a Kick Start and pursue the kind of love she never thought she would find?

This book is perfect for discussion in book groups and book clubs. Discussion questions are available on the author's website:

About the Author

Caren Crane grew up in Nashville, TN, and as a result does not care for country music. However, she cares a great deal about family, friends and men in boots of all sorts. She blames her love of reading on a childhood devoid of TV and heavy on amusing oneself. Reading books was a lot more fun than playing with Barbies and playing "library" was far superior to playing "school." When she discovered romance novels, Caren was hooked for good.

She now lives in North Carolina with her tall, handsome husband and a chatty, irascible rescue cat. She is sometimes visited by her three grown children. She loves to write funny, heartwarming stories set in her adopted home state and to investigate the Smoky Mountains, from whence her mother's people came. She firmly believes all books should feature family, friends and happy-ever-after endings.

You can keep up with Caren at her website, , or connect with her on Facebook ( or Twitter (@carencrane1). Caren is also part of the most fun blog on the internet, the Romance Bandits (). You can find her blogging each month in The Bandits' Lair, which is always full of great writers having all the fun that's legal in the blogosphere. Come on by! Or as they say down South, "Y'all come."

Great Book!!! This is a great book! I was hooked from the first page. I loved Linda's story and how she struggles with trying to cope and survive after her divorce. She decides that the only way for her to pay her bills and take care of her three children is to go back to school. When she goes to school she meets the sexy younger man Jack. I love how the author brought out Linda's fears with starting to date after being married for nineteen years. I also love how the author explained all of the challenges that a single mom faces everyday. I loved this story and was easily able to relate to the Linda because I experienced some of the same things as a single mom and also married a younger man. I loved all of the characters in this book and can't wait to read more books by this author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Great book with a really sympathetic main character, a woman who has to find her way after the rug is pulled out from beneath her.  Funny and heartfelt.

This book was a lot of fun to read. The main character, Linda, was a single divorced mom dealing with three kids and having no job and not much money. Her friends, her ex-husband and the people in her town are all great characters and I thought they were really funny. There is a lot of emotion in the book too. Linda has big problems that are hard for her to handle. Her life has changed a lot from when she was married and that causes stress for her too. I cared about all the people in the book and really was hoping things would work out for Linda and her boyfriend, Jack. Seeing how everyone reacted to her dating a younger man was funny and made me feel sorry for her. Overall, a really good and fast read. Would be a good book for a book club to talk about, I think.
