From the perface which just got me started, to the last word on page 237. It was action packed with what I think every man went through while they were in such a crappy that our government put them in. You could trust NO ONE, you never knew who the enemy was, where it was, or who it might be. Old lady old man or a 14 year old kid. This is my 19th book on the Vietnam War and I would have to say I think it was the best. I would love to meet Fredrick Downs one day. Jarrett Garrison Charlotte N.C.

I was a Vietnam veteran (as a Naval Aviator) and found this book to be a true representative of the ground action during the period. Highly recommended!

Great book that describes the experience of the VN war from the eyes of the infantry soldier. Shocking and sad at times as the author describes the brutality of the war and the deaths and injuries experienced by the U.S. troops. This book is required reading for anyone attending West Point Military Academy. Once you read it you will understand why. I have read several books about the Vietnam War and this is one of the best.

I barely know where to start. I could not put this book down once I started! Lt. Downs has 'been there - done that' and eloquently captured the drama, savagery, beauty and even humor that was Vietnam for the men who served there. I've read many books on the Vietnam war and I very strongly recommend 'The Killing Zone' without reservation of any sort. If you are a student of military conflict, want to know what your loved ones who served went through or are just curious about this war, this is the one book you must read. You will be a better person and have a much better understanding of what Delta Co and 'Delta One Six' experienced.

The book was a great description of what the soldiers in Vietnam experienced. The book is full of action and detail as the author describes his 5 monthes in Viet Nam.

This book is a wonderful but seemingly underrated narrative of one mans experience filled with honesty and emotion of his time in the Vietnam War. I suggest it for anyone who'd like to get the GI's perspective of the war. ---Enjoy!

I read this book to get a picture of what my father experienced while fighting in the army in Vietnam. I heard his stories growing up and committed them to memory. My dad died several years ago and this book did great justice to the combat stories he told. Thanks to the author for the memoriam to army service in Vietnam. I also appreciated the afterward. A great read and reminder of what we all owe to our veterans when we enjoy our freedoms in this country.

This is a great story of how a young man goes into a war thinking of the glory and excitement and quickly finds out that death and misery are the two main parts of conflict. It is an inspiring story of how this man learns to use his knowledge and compassion to help others.
