5+ stars! I was so excited to read Grace and Fagan's story.  I loved the banter and chemistry that these two shared in My Highland Spy. It carried right over into Kilts and Daggers!  These two characters had me laughing out loud and shaking my head at them.  I knew that Fagan was the underdog, but I was cheering for him.  Grace is an English woman who is very stuck in her ways, extremely outspoken and does not care for Highlanders - at all!  Fagan is a sexy, fierce Highland Captain who likes to irritate Lady Grace at every turn.  I love all of the characters in this new Highland Spies series by Victoria Roberts and I hope we get to learn more about Elizabeth.  Ms Roberts is a very talented author who is able to sweep you right into the Highlands and make you feel like you are apart of her characters and their stories.  Thank you Victoria for another amazing Highland adventure. I look forward to the next book!

Lady Grace Walsingham wishes to follow in the footsteps of her elder sister and beloved Uncle and become an accomplished spy for the Crown. Unfortunately, her sister had the great audacity to fall in love with barbaric highlander, so instead of convincing her sister to teach her the skills necessary to be a spy, Grace must attend the wedding and act like the proper, demur English rose she was raised to be. A bit hard to do when faced with the frustrating, infuriating hulking brute that is Fagan Murray, captain of the highland guard. Grace and Fagan battle wits and words like cats and dogs. Or perhaps like small children on the playground. Always sniping at each other to mask the growing affection and respect. And I loved the injection of rich detail into the narrative – enough to really set the scene or keep the action moving but not so much that the reader was overwhelmed or lost the plot. Characters, especially Grace and Fagen, are complex and realistic with a charming set of flaws and quirks. Poor Grace is torn between doing what she was raised to think was “proper” and doing what her heart really tells her she wants. Similarly, Fagan is dumbfounded to discover he has feelings for the snobby English girl and spends a few chapters trying to figure out what he will do with these new emotions. While it would help set a better context for certain parts of KILTS AND DAGGERS if you’ve read the first in this series (MY HIGHLAND SPY), it is not necessary to enjoy this book too. You’ll definitely want to pick this up if you enjoy a great romance set in the Scottish Highlands. Another wonderful story by Victoria Roberts! I love her Highlander books!  I just started this story yesterday and already finished it this morning.  It’s not a short story by any means but I flew through it and loved every minute of it.  We first met Grace in My Highland Spy and I knew there would be something fun with her.  She comes across rather stuck up and manages to catch Fagan, the Laird’s Captain of the Guard, attention with a fist to the eye!  I was so anxious to see how this proper English lady with nothing but disgust for Highlanders, would fall in love with Fagan. The banter between the two was great, and Fagan has no problems putting her in her place.  I enjoyed the fact that this was a love story not about a Laird. Often Highlander books revolve around the Kings and Lairds but Fagan is Ruairi’s best friend and captain.  Fagan was a favorite of mine from the first book with his unending dedication to the Laird. Now Fagan must learn to adjust to the new life in the castle with Ravenna and her family.  He struggles when Ravenna’s sisters arrive to stay as do all of the men when the castle is taken over by four strong-willed women.   It makes for some great side stories especially with Torquel and even Angus the wolf is a part of the story! This book is filled with adventure and danger as Grace and Fagan find themselves in a dangerous situation. Her family’s history with spying for the king has gotten her into some serious trouble. Through it all Grace doesn’t lose her fight to get what she wants.   She and Fagan make a great couple, fun with the banter and hot between the sheets.  I laughed in several places and was anxious as the story neared the end.  Extremely enjoyable story!  Highly recommended for all Highlander fans!  Victoria Roberts is an auto-buy for me. Every friend I’ve recommended her books to has thanked me!  This is book two in the Highland Spy's series.  Definitely get both and read them back to back!

I’ve not read any titles from this author, but historicals and highlanders are my weakness, so Kilts and Daggers  by Victoria Roberts was an obvious choice.  And I’m thrilled that I grabbed it. Neatly mixing in intrigue, English and Scottish society, a few braw highlanders and some lovely dialogue and I was enamored.  Grace is soon to be married when she discovers that her Uncle and elder sister were spies for the Crown, just  the thing she’d like to experience before settling down.  She’s got some time for adventure as well, her  immediate plans involve traveling to Scotland for her sister’s wedding, with some time before her own.   I loved Grace: she starts out as a bit of candy floss, not particularly deep or challenging, with a host of opinions that are not all well thought out. But she is far deeper than anyone gives her credit for, and beneath the proper young woman of the Tonne façade is a determined and passionate woman.   Arriving in Scotland, she is horrified by the knuckle dragging troglodytic Scotsmen, if only they weren’t so handsome and well-formed.  Believing, as many English do that the Scots are a different life form, she is alternately repelled and intrigued by the Highland Captain, Fagan.  When Grace needs an escort to return to England, Fagan is tasked with keeping her safe and returning her unsullied.  Not a particularly difficult task if only the lass wasn’t so intriguing. Fagan is typically a highlander one would expect: fighting fit, stubborn, willful and entirely alpha, not willing to coddle Grace’s sensibilities if he sees no real need.  The banter and bickering between the two starts gently, but as he comes to see the depth beneath the frills, he’s too intrigued to let her go.  These two develop and grow through their initial mistrust and dislike: Grace’s quick tongue is finely honed with  her experiences in society, and she’s not always in control of her temper if she feels slighted.  Fagan, unused to taking orders from anyone but the Laird is not going to let this chit of a sister in law make his life more difficult , but perhaps they can get on.  As he realizes her love and devotion to her family, and the strong sense of  loyalty for those she loves, he comes to understand that she’s not that different from his ideal.  He, in turn,  shows his own softer side, measured with a solid confidence in his own ability to protect her, and his honor to  do all that is needed.  As a couple, after a rather slow start the story soon had them engaged in repeated back and forth moments  that built the tension and the relationship in equal measure.  Roberts has a deft hand with pacing, adding laughter, tension and danger in equal measures, keeping the pages turning. At the climax, they couldn’t go fast enough, if only to see just how far Fagan would need to go to save Grace, and if she would finally admit to herself that her fiancé is not the one she wants. A great story that had me engaged early on after a bit of a slow start to build the world and information that would set up the story.  I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not  compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Plot and Story Line  Kilts and Daggers is the second book in Robert’s most recent series. Now I haven’t read the first, and I probably should have especially since I have it on my nook, but just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. However I do feel like it can still be read as a stand alone. I just love Victoria Roberts….I read one of her other books last year and just couldn’t enough of it. I was pretty excited for this one though, and I did have quite an enjoyable time of it. Not quite what I was hoping for, but I did find many aspects quite worth the read, and the bantering in this story was superb. Oh I just loved everything about…and now I just have to read Ruairi and Ravenna’s story. What I also liked quite a bit was the side characters, because we see quite a bit of Ruairi and Ravenna and Ruairi son and the other younger sisters as well. And already some seeds of another sister and her story. Oh that should be a good one. From the beginning of this story I loved the hero and hated the heroine. Oh did I not like her!! She tends to be quite judgemental and a bit self-righteous of everything Scotland…no matter what it is. However our hero….is a angel…literally…oh how patient he is with her. I love how he handles her in such fun ways too! There is a danger and mystery aspect to the plot, and it slowly filters in from the beginning, so you have that added aspect. We also see a connection form between Grace and Fagan…and it starts out pretty small but then it builds into something stronger and solid. It’s not until they are really tested that I began to enjoy Grace. I wasn’t sure if I would end up liking her…but I did miraculously. I loved the dynamics of the plot and the way it weaved about it certain ways you didn’t exactly see at first. It sneaks up behind up in some portions and I enjoyed seeing it unravel and come together. The Cover  What a lovely cover…I love the nightly theme…the blues and purples. And can you say HOT Highlander? I mean really I see this cover and he is all I see LOL I could tape him on my wall and just look at him all day. Overall View  Kilts and Daggers is a tale of how opposites attract, two people who are as different as fire and ice….but a fierce passion erupts and a deep love builds between them. A story of personal growth, fighting for those you love, and sacrifice. THRILLING!

THRILLING CAPTURING HIGHLAND STORY Victoria Roberts is among the top of the class when it comes to Highlander tales. Kilts and Daggers, book 2 of the Highland Spies series, lives up to every expectation. This is a book you will want to permanently put on your keeper read and reread and reread shelf. Open the book and read the first page and you will read until the book is finished, even all night. Kilts and Daggers have everything imaginable in a Highland romance! Love, danger, mystery, betrayal, intrigue, honor, and passion from page one to the last. These English sisters are something like the brawn highlanders have never seen and they don’t know what is going to happen next. Simply open the book and the author pulls you into the story and makes you feel as if you are among the characters and right at home in the Highlands. A favorite scene between Fagan and Grace, from Kilts and Daggers….. “What is amiss, bhanaphrionnsa?” He spoke slowly, and she knew he mocked her. “Do ye nae understand my words?” “Oh, I heard you. I want to know what you called me.” “The name suits ye. I called ye ‘princess.’” “Don’t call me that.” She looked around nervously in the hope that someone would rescue her from this man, and that was a term she used very loosely because he was certainly no gentleman. She spoke lightly and cast him a tight smile. “You know, Mister Murray, I seem to remember my fist fitting perfectly into your eye. If you don’t want me to blacken your other one, I suggest you leave off. Please let me know if you need me to speak more slowly because I want to make sure my words are understood perfectly.” Scotland 1610, Lady Ravenna is retiring from the spy business and is planning a wedding to Laird Ruairi Sutherland. Their story is told in Book 1, Highland Spy. Lady Grace Walsingham, is tired of being left alone while her uncle and sister are always leaving home and doing who knows what. She knows what they tell her but her instinct tells her there is more to it than what they say. When her sister goes off on one of her many adventures Grace decides to follow and find out for herself what exactly is going on. She discovers her sister is a spy for the crown and since she is getting married Grace wants to take her place. Grace is very feisty and says exactly what pops into her mind. She wants to return to England but wants more to stay for her sister’s wedding. She can’t find anything she likes about the barbarian Scots, especially the laird’s captain of the guard. She doesn’t pull any punches about letting him know exactly how much she dislikes all things highlander. Sparks fly in every direction between these two. Fagan Murray, acknowledges her beauty but he has absolutely no plans for a woman in his life. He nicknames Grace, the Princess, pushes her buttons by speaking Gaelic, which she doesn’t understand, to see her reactions. The time comes for Grace to return to England, who is chosen to escort her but Fagan. He doesn’t look forward to escorting the feisty, bold, snappy lady who fights him at every turn. How on earth will he keep his cool and temper in check while being irritated on every angle for weeks on end. But with danger hitting them from every direction, they must team up and work together to survive. He then finds the more he is with her, the more he begins to understand her, the more he is attracted to her. I very highly recommend Kilts and Daggers and any other book written by Victoria Roberts. I consider her one of my treasures and this author has a permanent place, with room for expansion, on my keeper read and reread shelf.

Grace and Fagan were one of the most entertaining couples I've ever read. The witty sparring and interactions between the two, alone, makes the book fantastic. The magnificent supporting characters, thrilling surprises, and amazing storyline make this top notch book. Victoria Roberts is very good at building a very vivid image in the reader's mind, so it is very easy to become completely engrossed in this book. The bad guys in this book were so good too. I absolutely loved hating them. This book was everything I had hoped it would be, and then some. I've been waiting since I finished My Highland Spy to see more Grace and Fagan. It was definitely worth the wait. The chemistry between the two is very hot, and their butting heads always makes a few sparks. Do not miss the chance to read this amazing book! I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is book 2 in the Highland Spies series. Lady Grace Walsingham can't believe that her sister has decided to spend the rest of her life in Scotland. Having traveled there to see her sister wed, Grace can't wait to get back to England and her betrothed. She didn't count on falling for her own barbaric Scot. Fagan has orders from his liege to take Grace back to England after her visit. All they ever seem to do is trade barbs back and forth. When all that hatred suddenly turns to passion, what will these two former foes do? While reading My Highland Spy, I figured that Roberts would pair Grace and Fagan up. Even then, the chemistry between the pair just leapt off the page. She did not disappoint. I loved the verbal sparring between Grace and Fagan. It had me laughing out loud at times. Roberts had just the right amount of romance, intrigue and adventure to make this the perfect story.  I can't wait to read the next book in the series!! Thanks go out to Sourcebooks via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

Kilts and Daggers By Victoria Roberts (Book 2 in Highland Spies Series)  Lady Grace Walsingham is English and is determined to follow in her sister (Ravenna) footsteps. Grace wants to be a spy for the crown. Grace dislikes everything in Scotland.   This includes Fagan. She feels she has to stay there to see her two younger sister settled with Ravenna & Ruairi much to the discomfort of her betrothed. Fagan Murray is Captain of Laird Ruairi Sutherland's Guard. He has liked Grace and has feelings for Grace.since when she first showed up to "save"her sister (My Highland Spy)  What transpires between Grace & Fagan will have you laughing and in tears. Who will Grace choose to be with? Or will she indeed turn out to be the next spy for the Crown?  ***Copy provided by Author for an honest review***

Victoria Roberts has done it again! She has given us a great historical romance that includes a well written suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat until you're finished reading it. If you enjoy a story with a strong-willed heroine who is not afraid to speak her mind and a man who is willing to accept it you will not be disappointed. I can't wait to see what Ms. Roberts has planned for us next. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

These two characters don't much care for one another. Grace is only in Scotland for her sisters wedding. She particularly doesn't enjoy the way they live their life. Grace is betrothed to a nice Englishman and she can't wait to head back, but she's spending a bit of time with her sisters in the highlands. The more time they spend together the strong dislike becomes attraction. Fagan is in charge of protecting Grace on her travels back to England, but there are mercenaries around ready to cause trouble. This book has passion, adventure, intrigue, and humor. It catches your attention right from the beginning. I love how the clan of highlanders quake with fear of having the four lasses under foot.

Lady Grace Walsingham wants some excitement in her life. Raised to marry well and be a blushing flower on the arm of her husband, she is betrothed to English nobility. Grace has learned that both her beloved uncle and her older sister were once spies for the Crown, and it sounds like something she would like to try. But before she can undertake her endeavor, she must endure the barbaric Scots in their plaids and kilts to attend her sister’s wedding. Particularly needling to her fine sensibilities was the Highland captain, Fagan, whose knuckle-dragging manners and powerful physique have her emotions waging their own inner battle. And guess who is charged with seeing her safely returned to England? If they do not kill each other first, the dangers on the road and the enemies they must face bring these two closer together than either would admit to liking. Will required tolerance begin something else the longer they bicker and banter on their journey? Kilts and Daggers by Victoria Roberts is filled with Scottish warriors, a rather snobbish English lady who has nothing but the accomplishments of her family and their name to lean on and kilts, lots of kilts. Ms. Roberts has filled her scenes with lush detail, and vivid battles, as well as some testy banter and barbs between her two main characters. Fagan is everything a kilt chaser could dream of, brave, honorable and self-assured. Grace is the product of a sheltered life, a little too haughty and self-important. Why not let Fagan bring her down a peg or two with his hidden charms? I love how Ms. Roberts handled her plot, from start to finish, never worrying if we fell for all of characters, just assuring they were complex and colorful! A fun, historical romance where two people are fated to be together, even if they are kicking and screaming their denials. I received this ARC edition from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca

Great Series! This is a great series; this is the second book in the Highland Spies series by Victoria Roberts. Grace has yearned for adventure, ever since she found out that her uncle and sister are spies for the crown. Grace is determined to learn all she can so she can also become a spy when she gets back to England. Fagan is a Highland captain, and was asked to escort Grace by to England. Grace is sassy and strong willed, and Fagan is the barbaric Scotsman. When they are not throwing barbs at each other, they can’t keep their hands off of each other. During the trip back to England they have to fight the mercenaries, while learning to love and trust each other. If you are looking for a great romance, with mystery and humor and sexy kilt wearing Scottish men then you need to read this book. I can’t wait until the next book comes out.  A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

3.75* I enjoyed this book. It was the perfect example of you don't judge a book by its cover or I should say person by there Heritage and demeanor.  Lady Grace Walsingham has come to the Highlands for the wedding of her sister Ravenna after finding out her sister and uncle are spies for the crown. She longs for the adventure that Ravenna had as a spy and doggedly asks Ravenna to train her.  Lady Grace has been a thorne in Captain Fagan Murray's side since the day she arrived to the Sutherland Keep. Grace can't stand Fagan's highland barbaric ways and Fagan has had enough of Grace's sassy and spirited attitude. They are at constant odds and neither of them can wait for her to take her leave and go back to England. They both have a strong sense of family and clan expectations and are determined to do whats right and expected. There's only one problem things start to change when Fagan escorts Grace back to England and Grace is about to have the adventure she's longed for but it could be the last one for her and Fagan.  This is part of a really good series and not a stand a lone book.

4.25 stars-KILTS AND DAGGERS is the second installment in Victoria Roberts’s adult Highland Spies historical, Highland romance series. This is English Lady Grace Walsingham, and Highland Captain Fagan Murray’s storyline. Grace is the sister of Lady Ravenna whom we met in book one My Highland Spy. KILTS AND DAGGERS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous storyline is revealed where necessary. Told from third person point of view, KILTS AND DAGGERS follows the building but tumultuous relationship between Grace and Fagan. Following her sister’s wedding to Laird Ruairi Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands, Grace forgoes a return trip to England to stay near her newlywed sister. Grace is betrothed to Lord Daniel Casterbrook but her feelings are ambivalent and confusing especially when a certain Scottish Captain is constantly on her mind. All does not go according to plan when the ‘barbarian’ Highlander Fagan Murray continues to be a thorn in Grace’s snobbish side. When Fagan opts to escort Grace back home, a rogue band of mercenaries will attack and take Grace hostage in a political exchange of prisoners. The relationship between Fagan and Grace is tumultuous. Grace is a snob; an aristocratic woman raised to be a proper English wife but in this her treatment of Fagan is anything but polite or acceptable. Fagan is an honorable Highlander who has fallen for the acid-tongued beauty, but he is accorded no respect by Grace, due in part to his lack of title and money. As the storyline develops, so too does the relationship wherein Grace will begin to understand her preconceived notions are a little too harsh and without merit. The $ex scenes are intimate and romantic without being too sexually graphic or too erotic but Grace’s need to belittle and insult Fagan Murray got old, real fast, and in this Grace is a difficult character to like. The world building continues to focus on some of the political temperament of the time-spies, leadership, and the ruling class. Scotland and England are constantly at war and a marriage between a Highland Warrior and the British nobility is never an easily accepted arrangement. Victoria Roberts take the reader through the breathtaking Scottish Highlands, rolling hills, and trickling streams of cool waters and darkened caves. Close your eyes and find yourself in the land of green grass and Highland castles. KILTS AND DAGGERS is a story of adventure, romance and love. There are moments of lighthearted humor balanced with heartbreak and betrayal. The beautiful Scottish Highlands take center stage in a storyline where two very different people fight a war with words and their heart.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.  This is the 2nd book in Victoria Robert’s Highland Spies series.  This was a wonderful story of Grace and Fagan! The tension between them is humorous at first, but as their relationship develops, the reader is hooked. Grace is witty and has a mightier than thou attitude. Fagan is sex on legs and every woman's dream! Their relationship is full of twists and turns, but in the end love does conquer all!!! The characters are wonderful and as the reader, you are rooting for them! Grace is sassy and not afraid to say what she thinks, and Fagan does really have a heart of gold! I really enjoyed reading this and can’t wait until the next installment! I highly recommend this those readers who love romance mixed with action and adventure.  Bravo Miss Victoria…it was a truly remarkable story!!!

Loved It! The Kilt and Daggers is the second book in this amazing series and Victoria Roberts did a fantastic job again. This is one of those book that I couldn't put it down and finished in one day. Since lady Grace Walsingham discovered her sister and uncle are spies , she loves to take her sister's place and be a spy for the crown and have adventure. Now she is in Scotland for Ravenna's wedding, she can't wait to leave this place and back to her betrothed, lord Daniel Casterbrook, in England. Fagan Murray, the captain of laird sutherland's guard, mission is to escort the haughty lady Grace back to England. Grace and Fagan's story is a delightful romance with great adventures. I love the verbal sparring between the hero and heroine, specially when Grace blacken Fagan's eye in the previous book, You will be amaze to see how Grace throw dagger. I laughed through the whole story and enjoyed reading every page. This line was my favorite that everybody asked Fagan to protect Grace and then they worried who protect Fagan from Grace. I highly recommend this fun book with lots of adventures. Thank you Victoria for writing another fabulous book.

I highly recommend KILTS AND DAGGERS to anyone who loves their Highlanders set in a rich storyline with complex characters who are fated to be together - even if they are kicking and screaming along the way,  "Truth be told, I've seen ye watching me, staring. Your eyes tell me what ye are thinking." When she stiffened, he leaned in closer. "I think ye wonder what lies beneath my kilt. If ye ask me nicely, mayhap I'll show ye. But ye'll have to say please." - Fagan to Grace KILTS AND DAGGERS by Victoria Roberts is a delightful, action-packed Highlands romance replete with a good dose of espionage, a steamy romance and a good dose of humor ! It's the second book in the author's Highland Spies series. I was thrilled by the return of favorite characters from the previous book, but, no worries, this book can be fully enjoyed as a standalone. So if you haven't read the previous book, don't worry that you'll be lost, as you won't be. This is the story of Lady Grace Walsingham and Highland captain Fagan Murray. Grace is the younger sister of Lady Ravenna Walsingham who is marrying Scottish Laird Ruairi Sutherland as this story begins. She is betrothed to an English nobleman. Fagan is Ruari's friend and right-hand man. My full review is posted at Reading Between The Wines Book Club. Check it out there! 4 Wine Glasses!
