Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
AGERANGE: Ages 6 to 8.

If you enjoyed King Kong the movie, then this level 2 book in the "I Can Read!" series may hold some appeal. It opens with our brave damsel Ann in great distress. She is tied up and it looks like she is going to be scarified to the great beast Kong. After he captures her, she uses her wits to keep him entertained since she does not want to end up being just a tasty morsel for Kong. Suddenly a fierce dinosaur appears and he and Kong end up battling. Ann decides that Kong is trying to protect her. They head up into the mountains and there enjoy watching the sun setting over Skull Island together. This book is farfetched indeed and has no real message or believable ending. The sole exception is that our heroine uses her head to save herself instead of just screaming in fear and hoping to be rescued--is this a depiction of today's modern woman?
