King of Hearts by L.H. Cosway

Welcome to the City, London’s most prestigious square mile, where finance reigns and Oliver King is a rising prince.

I used to rule the world.

There might be wolves on Wall Street, but there were crocodiles in Canary Wharf. Some of us craved money. Some of us craved power.
I liked money, and power had its advantages, but what I really wanted was to excel, to surpass the men who came before me. I never cared much for love and romance until I met Alexis.

I could feel it the very moment she walked into the interview, with her outspoken charm and vivacious personality. She cast all the others in shadow, made me laugh when life held no humour. Our friendship should have remained professional, but it wasn’t long before the lines started to blur.

You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men? Well, I never foresaw where my plans would lead, and only in my darkest hour did I finally see the light…

You can have all the money and prestige in the world and still be the poorest man alive. And love, well, I hate to use a tired old cliché, but love can be the thing that truly sets you free.

This is not my first time reading this book; I love these characters so much, but I realized I had never reviewed it, and needed to this time. When I first came across King in Hearts of Fire, I knew that his story would be emotional. Well, that's the truth! Reading about his life before and after all his turmoil is an emotional roller coaster, and just an awesome tale. I love the strength of him, and Alexis is perfect. Seeing characters from previous books were an added bonus. I love and enjoy every book Ms. Cosway writes.

Wow!!! King's story is heart breaking and exciting and passionate. Alexis and King have amazing chemistry from the start that spans years and distance. Only love can help King rise from the gutter his life has become. The journey heals them all and surpasses all expectations. A great read that exposes some of the hardships of addiction and alcoholism.

I am always looking forward to reading L.H.'s books and when I read that King from Hearts of Fire would get his own story I was so excited. After reading this book in one sitting, once again I admired this author's talent to tell stories. She is like a magician that takes you from the hand and puts you in the character's lives. I didn't know what to expect from this book as King was a destroyed and tortured man when we last saw him and I was anxious if I would be depressed by his world. I was totally wrong. This book had funny moments with a heroine smart and sassy and a hero direct but sensitive. Their beggining was entertaining and their continuation of their story was heartwarming. After this book I was disappointed to not have a blog and shout how much I loved it so more people can know about it! The writing is amazing that draws you and you invest all your feelings in them. I love reading and this book was one of the reasons why I love books so much. It just stole my heart...

Reviewed by Francesca and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog You know the thing with highly anticipated books? I’m always scared that they won’t live up to my expectations. But somehow with L.H. Cosway I’ve learned to trust the fact that no matter what I think the story should be, what I’ll get is going to be awesome! The story of King was one I was dying to read after seeing the devastation his life had become. Oliver King is my new book boyfriend, that is all. You all need to meet him. I was blown away by how I gradually fell for the grungy man I knew he would become but when you first meet him in KING OF HEARTS he’s the most luscious, successful, witty, business man you’ll ever meet. I don’t normally have a “thing” for billionaires, but Oliver King did it for me. His personality was probably what did me in, and it’s because L.H. Cosway is soo good and writing the perfect hero. As much as I loved the characters, because I also completely adored the heroine as I always do in her books, it was the story that kept me riveted. The different stages of King’s life. The successful man he was, him slowly falling for the quirky assistant. Prepared to be wowed. Then tragedy strikes. And you see the reason why he became almost homeless and taking refuge in his sister’s traveling circus. A drunk. Unclean and unkept. And then there’s his transformation back. The man we are left with is amazing. Everything he’s gone through has only made him stronger. Even if he had to hit rock bottom first. You will love KING OF HEARTS. I can guarantee it!

5 - "You'll have to get up a lot earlier in the morning to offend me, Mr. King." Stars! King of Hearts is another absolutely outstanding example of why I love L. H. Cosway’s work so much. You never know what you are going to get in relation to a characters story, or what direction everything is ever going to take. I walked into this one thinking I had an idea of how things might play out, I mean we met Oliver King in Hearts of Fire and we were given a little of the guys background, but that was literally just the tip of the proverbial Iceberg. The previous two books in the series have offered up stories and characters of the weird and wonderful variety, and although we initially met Oliver whilst he was traveling around with the Circus Spektakulär, the first half of King of Hearts takes the reader back to 2009, back to a time when Oliver, was King of all he surveyed and at the beginning of a relationship, that produced the photograph that is the only thing his now alcohol addled mind really and truly treasures. ”If I don’t have respect, I have nothing.” The author took me by surprise a little with this part of the book, the Before and the build up to the actual event that pushed Oliver into the man we know him as was not really what I was expecting, and once again L. H. Cosway completely blew my expectations out of the water. I don’t want to give too much else away to be honest, the beauty in this book, as it is with all of this authors books is that you as a reader dive in and discover the stories secrets yourself. What I will say though is even though this book steps away from the Circus environment, still go in ‘expecting the unexpected’ and have plenty of tissues to hand (especially for the second half). ”I fear if I made you my queen, I could no longer be a king.” I loved this book, I loved the path the story took; Oliver with all of his dashing charm, dirty moves and sexy wit, stands shoulder to shoulder with Jay and Jack in the 'leading man I love the most' stakes, and like its predecessors you can read this book as a standalone, I urge you to read the Hearts series in full though, you will struggle find a more unique and diverse set of characters and stories anywhere else. Karla and Lee are up next, Hearts of Blue is due November 2015, so I will now go back to waiting for another L. H. Cosway book to release! ARC generously provided by the author, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.
