King of Prey: A Bird Shifter Novel by Mandy M. Roth

King of Prey
Book One

In a place where realms combine and portals open passages to the unknown, a prophecy speaks of fertility being restored to King Kabril's people through the taking of his mate.

The prophecy neglects to mention she lacks something vital to his kind--wings. Kabril, king of the Buteos Regalis, has no interest in taking a human mate. His kind believe humans are dirty, vile creatures who rely on machines to lift them into the air. The last place he wants to go in search of his mate is the realm of Earth, but he's left no choice.

Never did he expect to find love on a planet with one moon, people who lack wings and a stubborn vixen who makes his heart soar. When he does, he fears the truth about who and what he truly is will steal it away. Little does he know his enemies fully intend on doing the taking.

This book was awesome. I love the idea of bird shifters. I found the story to be and the realm in which Kabril lived to be fascinating. This book was incredibly well written, the characters were highly likable. Kabril, Sachin, and Rayna I felt were perfect for this story world. Kabril had just the right amount of arrogance and regality to him. While Sachin was the perfect best friend and adviser, he kept Kabril on his toes and made sure he took care of his responsibilities. I look forward to reading Sachin's story. Rayna was a strong heroine, she knew what she wanted and how she felt about things and she didn't let the king run over her. I fully enjoyed their love story. It was hot, thrilling, emotional, and quite fun. Especially, with Kabril's way of speaking and their aversion to chicken.

I really hate to just give this book 4 stars, it really was a good story. For me, the first 5 chapters were a bit slow, but even though this isn't my type of story, it totally drew me in after that. I loved the character's and the story line.

GREAT STORY. Probably one of my favorites stories out of this series. I love the way Lazar and Sabrina come together. The humor, the love, it all just fits so well. Sabrina plays such a strong young woman. Very independent yet still in need of everything Lazar can offer. Her relationship with Gardelle is great. I also love the interesting behavior between Sabrinas friend Lisa and Gardelle. That could be a story all it's own. Overall the book is great. I also LOVE the new cover.

King of Prey is a wonderful book. King of Prey is different from other shifter books that I have read because this book is about bird shifters! I couldn't believe it when I started reading. Loved how Rayna doesn't take any crap from Kabril and she's not afraid to stand up to him. But the chemistry between the two of them will melt the pages. Bird shifters! Need I say more! I can not wait to read the next book in the series!

the first book i ever ready by Roth...never had thought about bird shifters before but mandy made that bird very entertaining and rather dense for a king, lucky rayna is strong enough to take on the king and put him firmly in his place!

I loved this story so much I had read it three times. I love king kabril and how he changes his way of thinking and being just to please his chosen mate. The bird shifters are all really cool but kabril holds a special place in my heart.

Great Series! This is the first book in the King of Prey series. Kabril is the King of the Buteos Regalis, his people believe the prophecy states that if he takes a mate then the fertility will be restored to his people. His mate Rayna ends up being a human, and can’t shift. I enjoyed reading how Kabril and Rayna finds true love with each other and overcomes the many obstacles they had to face. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series.  A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

This is the first book in the this series. What a refreshing world to enter where instead of the usual wolf, bear, dragon, cat shifters there is a whole realm of Bird Shifters. These are not just any birds but strong potentially dangerous huge Hawks and Falcons. Kabril is the King of the Buteos Regalis, a bird shifter. He is forced to find a mate among the humans he detests or the fate of his kingdom will be in further peril. The prophecy has decreed that this is the only was to assure his people will be able to breed and have children. While trying to adapt to temporarily living in the earth realm with his advisor Sachin, Kabril encounters a female that takes his breath away, Rayna. She is obviously his mate, although not even Kabril or Rayna know this. Sachin explains he must court Rayna and learn the ways of the humans. Sachin secretly knowing they are mates, works his magic to bond the two together. Kabril is gorgeous hunky alpha royalty who has never needed to woo or even court a women, much less a human one. Rayna is an animal photographer who happens to specialize in photographing birds. Immediately enraptured with the swoonworthy but slightly strange Kabril, Rayna does not understand the intense feelings he stirs in her. The story was a little short but a great worthwhile read filled with a lot of awesome fantasy, romance, hot sexiness, suspense, adventure and humor.I will definitely be revisiting this world and reading the rest of the series.

Kabril is the king of the Buteos Regalis, a shifter and must find a wife or mate for the prophecy of fertility for his people to be fulfilled. At the advice of his advisor and friend, Sachin, Kabril agrees to travel to earth to look for a mate since he has no desire to mate with any of the women on his home planet. I love Mandy Roth and will read anything with her name on it; unfortunately, this book was not one of my favorites and not one that I would read again. IMO, Kabril did not come across as an Alpha or King of a species of shifters. I actually enjoyed Sachin more than Kabril! The book was an easy read with no major conflict or surprises…………….. Overall, I would rate the book 2.75 **This book was given to me by the author for an honest review**

wonderful sci-fi paranormal book that you will "fly away on" and will read over and over again. ****A gifted copy was provided by the author for an honest review**** King Of Prey is a book which is sci fi /paranormal mixed with erotic romance. Kabril, King of Buteos Regalis, is seeking his mate who can help bring fertility back to his people. There is a prophecy stating that the mate would bring fertility back BUT the prophecy DID not mention she would be human and from another realm. Another problem Kabril has is that his kind believes humans are dirty and have to rely on artificial means to get in the air while he uses his wings to fly but he needs to bring fertility back so to Earth he goes. On Earth we meet Rayna. Rayna is an animal photographer who is in the process of trying to sale her grandmother’s house. Kabril’s cover story is that he is an avian veterinarian. Immediately sparks  fly  between them, and their scenes together are so terrific that I cant stop reading because I am enjoying the interaction. Unfortunately Kabril believes Rayna is not the woman of the prophecy, so he tries to keep  his distance. And Rayna tries to keeps away because she’s a bit nervous and likes both Sachin and Kabril so much in different ways– they all become fast friends but her heart belongs to Kabril. But Sachin, he definitely knows more than he lets on and he is very effective in pulling the strings in the background.  The writing is so seamless, the story written so well that you are rooting for the main characters Kabril and Rayna . There are battles and there are sensual times. There are twists and turns of all types in this story which will make you stand up and root for everything to work out for the H/h. I really loved this story. The author has a great knack for writing stories where you get so engrossed that you cant put the book down until the book is over and this is the same here. This is a great story in the Bird Shifter series which is book 1 of the series. You will really enjoy this story and will want to go on to read book 2. My rating: 5 stars *****

*I received a copy of this book for an honest review* The first book in the Bird Shifter series, King of Prey ranges from action-packed to humorous, sexy to romantic, and everything in-between. The hero is a reluctant king seeking a mate outside his species in order to save it. The heroine is trying to cope with the loss of her grandmother as well as the house she grew up in. Kabil and Rayna are good, solid archetypes of the genre with strong supporting characters in the way of Kabril's best friend and advisor Sachin, his brothers and bad-guy turned rescuer Lazar. I enjoyed this book immensely and have no problem recommending it to anyone, particularly if you are a fan of Mandy M Roth and/or shifters yourself.

A Great beginning to the series! Mandy Roth’s her storyline flows effortlessly to capture the reader’s imagination from the beginning. This book made me snicker and laugh out loud. It's one hot read too. I love the characters. It will leave you wanting to read more about the other bird shifters and what they will have to go through to win their mates. Mandy Roth is fantastic at creating new worlds for her characters to live in. She sets my imagination soaring. I Love this series! Get the book you will not be disappointed!  I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Another Feather in Mandy’s Cap!!!   – Her Cap of Awesome Books, that is!  I am loving this series and bird shifters!  Never mind the fact that this is my first bird shifter book & series!  The series opens with King of Prey, A View to a Kill (book 2) and Master of the Hunt (book 3).  I thought that Mandy did a great job with King of Prey in setting up the rest of the series.  Their race & world is beautifully explained and Mandy did a terrific job describing the “disgusting Humans”!  I loved being able to see “us” from a different point of view.  A very narrow-minded and prejudiced point of view, but it was all done so humorously that you can’t be mad at them or blame them for it.  There are so many funny moments that I would be very hard pressed to pick just one!  I found that it was so hilarious in poking fun at us Earthlings, as well as females, males, etc.  Oh how I love the King of Prey Series!!!  It is super unique in both the characters as well as the bird shifter race as a whole.  I loved all of the “misinterpretations” between the two languages, customs, and the way of life.  One such example is between Rayna and Kabril (in K of P) “I swear, around you, Kabril, I have two left feet and I’d forget my head if it wasn’t attached.”  He paled.  “Your head can detach?”  HA!  Or when Kabril is “trying” to pass as human so is dressing like one in jeans and wants to take them back to his realm to use as a torture device as he thinks that they are so restrictive and uncomfortable.  Of course, he is staring and drooling over Rayna at this point, so…..LOL  This ummm “trait” of being so innocent of our ways & language coupled with their sense of “your mine, end of story” personalities by the ‘bird-men” continues throughout the first 3 books, and I suspect the others as well, which all helps to make these books so original!  I like that there is so much happening but not anything “extra” nor is there anything left out.  You are not lost at any point or questioning anything.  You get the story without any extra or unnecessary babbling and no information overload which can sometimes be the cause of a great books downfall.  But not with anything that Mandy writes!!! The whole romance mixed in with the humor, hot sex, the predestined futures/date/destiny and so much love all make these great stories to read!  I am really starting to see the benefits of shorter stories and I am loving it!  There is less fighting, less time spent apart while enabling the readers to still have more story that gets to the point, and also gets, then keeps, the couples together in true shifter fairy tale style!!!  So yes, they tend to be short, sweet, to the point, but nothing is left out!  It takes an extremely talented author to be able to write shorter stories that don’t feel like shorter stories.  To be able to have you understand the characters, the traditions, the situations, the worlds, etc. while also having you fall in love with the characters and hoping for their HEA, that is a rare talent and Mandy definitely proves she has just that!  I love the uniqueness in each story, but at the same time there are a lot of similarities, each making each book its own and not just a copy of the others – no mocking birds here!  Just a perfect hot feathery HEA!!  OK, its official!  I love bird shifters!  Maybe Mandy will create a spin-off for me with OWLS!    Regardless, this is one series you do not want to miss out on!

What a fun read! I love the idea of bird shifters, it's a nice break from your typical werewolf, werebear (don't get me wrong, I still love them) stories. Kabril is the king of his people. And he is prophesied to find a human mate that will enable his people to have children again. Needless to say he is not thrilled with the idea of having a human mate, he believes them to be beneath him and that he will never be attracted to one. Oh how the mighty fall..... Rayna is a wildlife photographer, she meets Kabril and his friend Sachin after selling her grandmother's house to them. Kabril is instantly drawn to her and I love how he is forced to woo her instead of just tossing her over his shoulder and carrying her back to his realm like he would prefer to do. I loved the the interactions between these two, Reyna is sassy and kind hearted and I loved how sweet and possessive Kabril was with her. She had him wrapped around her finger. This was a quick, steamy and fun read with plenty of laugh out loud moments (chicken dinner, lololololol). I can't wait to dive into the next book! * I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review
