Just saw the movie at the Philadelphia Film Festival 2006, and the star/director Joel Edgerton spoke after. I really wanted to ask him how he picked the tunes, and if "Lola"-Chiwetel Ejiofor actually sang his stage numbers. Indeed he did, and what great covers they are. You can't help but fall in love with the enthusiasm and joy of this soundtrack! It's a mix of originals and covers, many of them shoe-themed, by Chiwetel as "Lola". The mix of James Brown, the late and sadly missed Kirsty MacColl, David Bowie, Nina Simone, Lyn Collins and Adrian Johnston flow well with Chiwetel Ejiofor's songs. The soundtrack starts out with a bang as Chiwetel sings "Whatever Lola Wants". Given that Chiwetel played the villain in the movie "Four Brothers", who knew he had it in him! You don't need 4-inch steel reinforced stiletto thigh-high boots to dance to this, but they help!
