A Kiss Before Dawn by Kimberly Logan

It takes a thief to catch a thief...and one kiss to steal a heart.

For one brief moment, Lady Emily Knight knew what heaven was when she shared a soul-searing kiss with Peter. But a penniless youth schooled in the London streets cannot love a beautiful heiress—so he vanished, leaving Emily heartbroken . . .

Now a formidable Bow Street Runner, Peter returns to hunt down an elusive thief who's been preying on the Oxfordshire wealthy—even though his mission must inevitably reunite him with the sensuous beauty who haunts his dreams and whose taste still lingers on his lips.

But as tantalizing embraces enflame their passion once more, will Emily's knowledge of the thief's true identity transform desire into distrust and impassioned lovers into dangerous adversaries?

This was an interesting twist on old English Lords and Ladies, how they conducted themselves and how important family was to them. It was a fun, easy read which holds the attention and keeps one turning the pages. It gives us all hope for our one true love.

I have been awaiting Peter Quick and Emily Knight's story for some time and I was not disappointed! This was a wonderful book with strong characters and plenty of suspense and adventure as the lead couple set out on a mission to capture a jewel thief. The love story between Peter and Emily is compelling and touching as they learn to forgive each other for past mistakes. Fans of Ms. Logan's first book, A Kiss in the Dark, will certainly enjoy it!

In 1827, the Earl Tristan worries about the third robbery in less than a month by the Oxfordshire Thief. He goes to London where he meets his protégé Bow St. investigator Peter Quick, who is like a son to him. He asks Peter to come home to find the felon because the earl¿s pregnant wife Deirdre is upset and needs him to do so. Only for Deirdre would Peter return home he fled four years ago because of his feelings for Tristan¿s sister Emily. --- Emily is worried because she is the Oxfordshire Thief blackmailed into stealing out of fear the threats from an odious man to expose her mother will ruin her sibling. She runs into Peter who thinks she is still the most beautiful woman in the world. Emily finds she still desires Peter though he deserted her four years ago. They act cold towards each other. Tristan informs Emily that Peter is here to capture the thief this frightens her as she knows he is dedicated and obstinate and fears Newgate awaits her, but must do what she feels is right. --- This exciting suspense contains a touch of a police procedural as performed by the Bow St. investigator. The lead couple is a terrific pairing as they love one another, but he believes she deserves better than a rejected son of a whore augmented by the return of the stars from the previous book (see A KISS IN THE DARK). Though Emily falling for blackmail without any proof seems inane for an intelligent person like her, fans will enjoy this thrilling late Regency romantic suspense. --- Harriet Klausner
