The Chemist and the Rake - who wins? They both do!

Saint Nick indeed! Kiss of a Duke is a steamy romance filled with science, baking, and romantic chemistry. Chemist Penelope Mitchell, is now finally being recognized because of the popularity of her men's cologne Duke. Seeing as she created an amazing scent that has helped men to meet the women they are longing for, she has decided that it is only fair that women have the same advantage, but before she can sell her new scent, she needs to make sure it works, in walks Nicholas Pringle. Who better to test her scent on then London's most known rake? Nick has been searching out the creator of Duke to get them to stop making it, but never in his wildest dreams did he think that he would find someone like Penelope. Between the two of them things start to heat up, but will they be able to put hurt feelings, and mistrust behind them? I loved this book, read it in one day, as I was not able to put it done! For anyone who is looking for a great read that will put you in the Christmas spirit anytime of year, this is the book for you. Cant wait to see what Erica Ridley will bring us next!

I really enjoyed this book in the series! I love how strong Penelope is, I enjoyed the banter her and Nick had throughout the book. It was a lot of fun to read. I was given an advanced copy so I could volunteer my honest review. I do recommend this book, I recommend the whole series so far!

Celebrating a scientific breakthrough begins this amusing romance! Penelope, a scientist, doesn't believe in marriage. Nicholas, a rogue Duke, doesn't believe in it either. The writing makes the story flow and grabbed my attention! This is the second book in the series and I've enjoyed both visits to Christmas, England! Voluntarily read ARC, from Netgalley and publisher, for honest review.

I received a copy from the author via NetGalley (and then I bought it); this is my honest review. #12dukes #NetGalley It's been a while that I enjoyed a book so much. It's funny, it's over the top in details the Penelope, the woman chemist spurts out when she's nervous or when she thinks people are really interested in knowing those facts (they are not) and it's endearing. I loved every bit of it and would recommend the author.

I found this to be a story that had me smiling throughout the book I enjoyed reading from the first to the last page. The second book in the 12 Dukes of Christmas and I want to read the next one. This is a book I would recommend.

I loved Nick and Penelope's story. Having met both of them in the previous book, I was very eager to see where Ridley would take this story. Penelope is a chemist who makes perfume. She had created a cologne that made women fall for the men that wore it and was now trying to create a perfume for ladies. When Nick learns that Penelope is the creator of the cologne, he tries his best to get her to stop making it or to sell him the rights to it. He thinks that a man should be considered a rake on his own merits (like he himself is) and not by wearing a cologne that makes women fall at his feet. Penelope refuses. Nick starts spending time with Penelope to get her to change her mind. Since he is hanging around, Penelope decides to use him as a test subject. If she can get a known rake to fall for her while she is wearing her new perfume, she will know when she has the right formula. She didn't count on falling for the man herself! When Nick proposes, Penelope believes that he doesn't really love her. That all of his feelings were created by the perfume. Will these two figure out their true feelings before it is too late? This was a great addition to the 12 Dukes of Christmas series. The bantering between Nick and Penelope had me laughing out loud! I'm really hoping that we get Nick's brother's story next!

The second trip to Cressmouth, the town with Christmas all year long, is just as delightful as the first. What do you do when Saint Nick comes to town? Why, you bake him cookies and leave them by the fireplace. At least that’s what Penelope does when she gets a visit from Nicholas Pringle (a rogue known as Saint Nick). He is going to be the test subject for her latest “love is chemistry” perfume, and she entices him with biscuits (cookies). Neither of these people believe in love - at first. The more time they spend together, the more their attraction grows, the more confused they become. Watching them unravel their dilemma is laugh-out-loud entertaining. Loveable, quirky characters and a charming holiday setting make this a heartwarming Christmas story. Nick’s brother, Chris Pringle, and Penelope’s friends Virginia and Gloria make up a wonderful supporting cast and all try to help bring these two to a happy ending. Will they succeed? Hope so! Watch for the tip of the Christmas cap to our favorite Holiday stories (again). There are two turtle doves, but not in the aviary with the partridge in a pear tree. You will love how they came to be in the story! Happy Christmas! I merrily recommend this one. It’s a winner.

I had so much fun with this story. This was a quick light read that takes us a little deeper into the town of Cressmouth (otherwise known as Christmas) and introduces us to yet another of the ‘Dukes’ in Christmas. It’s much lighter than the previous one in the series, with significantly less emotional turmoil. There’s still a healthy dose of angst, though, as Penelope and Nicholas try to prove there’s no such thing as love in their lives. There’s also lots of silly, funny moments that occasionally left me gasping for breath. I can’t wait to read Christopher’s story now. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author through NetGalley.

Intelligent, witty, insightful, romantic - a perfect Regency romance! Penelope is a chemist first, top-shelf spinster second. She has no interest in intangible concepts like love, choosing instead to rely on scientific evidence that her pheromone-based perfume for men helps ordinary men find eligible women. As the most notorious rake in all England, Nick feels that leveling the playing field is vastly unfair and unnatural, and he sets out to stop Penelope's cologne by any means necessary. Even if that means showing up at her door every day, partaking of her delicious cookies and unwittingly participating in her field study wherein she tests the female version of her perfume on herself, with Nick's reactions providing the measurable data for her study. Nick's reactions are just as much of an object of study to himself, as well. He can't understand why the only woman he's ever met that doesn't want to marry him or bed him should still arouse such an interest from his own long-ignored heart. Penelope is likewise struggling to identify her own responses, knowing that she's not under the influence of any chemical reactant, and trying to figure out how she can reconcile her desire for Nick to choose her on his own with her need for his responding to her to be a demonstrable effect of her newest perfume. The writing throughout this delightful story is effortlessly charming, deeply soulful, and just a tiny bit tongue-in-cheek as the author deftly includes various aspects of the Santa legend, transforming Nick into one Hot Santa. The setting of a small mountain town named Christmas is almost magical in its sweet charm and idyllic lifestyle. The love scenes are surprisingly sensual and the HEA is solidly heartwarming. It was a non-stop read for me, an endearing escape with fellow intellectuals that shows just how sexy science can be. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

What can I say but that this book was wonderful. Take two people who do not want romance and throw in some chemistry and then the intrigue starts. They not only find out amazing things about each other but come to know themselves better.

Erica Ridley continues with her 12 Dukes of Christmas series with another fun filled romance that will have you laughing as you turn the pages. Nick and Penelope are wonderful characters that have the best witty conversations back and forth. Penelope, a chemist, creates a scent for men called "Duke" and touts to turn the most unassuming man into a rake. Nick tries to convince her to stop selling the new creation, being the rake that he is and encourages her to make a perfume for women, which would have the same effect on men. She decides to try it on Nick and the adventure begins. A delightful read that has me only anxious for the next book in this series!! Lori Dykes

Kiss of a Duke is the second book in the 12 Dukes of Christmas Regency Romance series, featuring 12 romps in a picturesque holiday village. Lady chemist Penelope Mitchell discovers a perfume for men that makes them undeniably attractive to women. England is a blaze with people clamoring for more of Penelope’s Duke perfume. When she decides to make a similar perfume for women, she uses a very special male as her test subject. Nicholas Pringle has come to the village to stop production of Duke perfume. But when he meets the amazing woman inventor behind the product his world is turned upside down. I have loved all of Ridley’s books and this one is no exception. I love how she builds and layers her characters. Nicholas isn’t just an average vapid rake, but a man with deep vulnerabilities and a complex personality. Penelope wasn’t my favorite heroine. I found her spouting science to be at times tiresome. However, Nicholas makes up for any lack in Penelope. I can’t wait to read more. I was gifted a copy of this book.

In a packed ballroom, a drunken voice raised a toast to the Duke, and the crowd responded with a toast to Lady chemist Penelope Mitchell, creator of a men’s perfume named “Duke” which caused women to swoon at their feet. The village was proud of their chemist and her accomplishment. The gossip columns were spreading the word how the most unrakish of men splashed on the scent and were almost trampled by eager ladies. Every time Penelope tried to explain how it worked, her friend Gloria made her stop talking – she didn’t want her to ruin the magic for everyone. So to prepare for a version for the ladies, named “Duchess”, this new perfume must cause a rake to fall in love within 10 days. Nicholas “Saint Nick” Pringle – super-confident in his own charisma and charm, as well as not being a believer in love – naturally becomes the perfect test subject for Penelope’s new creation. Is he really interested in her, or is it the perfume working on him? Will he fall for her and prove her perfume is a success? Will he give up all interest in the lady rather than admit she was right? Or did love result from honest interactions with each other and learning to care? This is a really good book to draw us into the Christmas spirit! The characters are wonderful and the story line is fun! Get your copy and join in with the merriment!

Kiss of a Duke by Erica Ridley 12 Dukes of Christmas #2 Penelope Michell has created a fragrance that has women swooning when men wear it. The scent has leveled the playing field so that women are able to get to know men who might otherwise be overlooked. There is one man who is not happy with this because he, a rake of renown, has found the competition increased and feels it is not fair for these men to have it so easy…pot calling the kettle black, perhaps? So, Nicholas Pringle sometimes referred to as St. Nick is out to remove Duke, eau de toilette for men, from the market any way he can and THAT means getting close to Penelope. What a delightful story of two people getting to know one another. They find out so much about one another that has been somewhat hidden, are wonderful together and certainly deserve their happily ever after! I had no idea how one could have 12 Dukes of Christmas when I heard about the series but am thoroughly enjoying each story as another Duke is revealed. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars

I loved the quick wit and banter that Penelope and Nicholas constantly gave the reader! My favorite types of romance are when the H/h become friends before lovers story and this one was perfect. Neither believed in love for themselves yet came to discover that it really exists by the end of the story. A lovely read! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy!

I loved that we went back to Christmas, it's a town. It's Christmas there all year long. Penelope has invented a perfume for men that has the ton swooning with delight. Penelope lives in Christmas, where she has a lab and makes cookies. Nicholas is a rakehell and wants Penelope to stop making Duke, the perfume for attraction. When he goes to her house to try to get her to sell it, she makes cookies. They are one of Nick's favorite foods. He is hanging around her house a lot, maybe for the cookies. Penelope is very scientific and wants to try out the new perfume that is for making men grovel at her feet. I laughed out loud at some of the things the girls in town were up to. Nick is more than a womanizer. He is also a very artistic glass blower. This book is made for laughs, fun and love. I read it in one sitting and look forward to the rest of the series. I received this book from Net Galley and WebMotion for a honest review and no compensation otherwise. The opinions expressed are my own.
