Kiss of Fire (Dragonfire Series #1) by Deborah Cooke

For millennia, the shape-shifting dragon warriors known as the Pyr have commanded the four elements and guarded the earth's treasures. But now the final reckoning between the Pyr, who count humans among the earth's treasures, and the Slayers, who would eradicate both humans and the Pyr who protect them, is about to begin...

When Sara Keegan decides to settle down and run her quirky aunt's New Age bookstore, she's not looking for adventure. She doesn't believe in fate or the magic of the tarot-but when she's saved from a vicious attack by a man who has the ability to turn into a fire-breathing dragon, she questions whether she's losing her mind-or about to lose her heart...

Quinn Tyrrell has long been distrustful of his fellow Pyr and a self-reliant loner. So when he feels the firestorm that signals his destined mate, he's determined to protect and possess Sara, regardless of the cost to himself. Then Sara's true destiny is revealed-and Quinn realizes he must risk everything- even Sara's love-to fulfill their entwined fates...

Were-dragon Quinn Tyrrell prefers to be by himself forging incredible objects rather than be part of the pack of shapeshifting dragons. He simply does not trust his Pyr peers. When he finds his human soulmate is Sara Keegan, he is euphoric until he realizes they are the key players in a prophecy that could leave them dead. ----------- Quinn in his dragon persona saves Sara from a killer although she wonders who drugged her as dragons are not real. To her surprise she is attracted to Quinn and grateful that he came to her rescue. However she does not believe his revalatione that she is his life mate even if their touch results in sparks and will birth the next dragon-smith with him. When Slayers attack them, the former accountant confronts Quinn demanding he explain the bottom line to her. He informs her that besides mating, they are the firestorm if they live long enough to survive, they need the Pyr, but he distrusts his peers.-------- The first Dragonfire romantic fantasy is a wonderful tale due to the lead female whose orderly world of numbers no longer exists Sara¿s mental adjustment to all she learns makes the paranormal elements including specie dragon-shifter seem genuine. The story line is fast-paced and filed with action as Quinn knows he can no longer be the lone ranger of dragons and Sarah wonders how she went from debits and credits to fighting Slayers and falling in love with a dragon. KISS OF FIRE is an excellent thriller with more to come.------ Harriet Klausner

When logic-minded accountant, Sara Keegan, inherits her aunt¿s new age bookstore, Sara leaves her steady job and constant travel behind, hoping to settle down into a more conventional life. To put down roots. But what transpires after meeting sexy, mysterious Quinn is anything but ordinary. There¿s no room for logic as Sara opens her mind and heart to the magic of the man and his extraordinary legacy, as well as to her own psychic abilities..... Quinn Tyrrell is the Smith who forges exquisite objects from metal and fire. He also happens to be one of the Pyr, an ancient species of shape-shifting dragon warriors who command the four elements and stand guard over earth¿s treasures, which includes humans. When Quinn senses that his prophesied firestorm has arrived, he seeks out Sara Keegan, his destined human mate, in order to beget an heir and ensure that his line of Smiths continues. When Sara and Quinn touch for the first time, sparks fly, literally, and their passion ignites. Unfortunately, they¿re also fighting for their lives..... Quinn and Sara find themselves at the center of a vicious battle between the good Pyr and a murderous group of dragons called the Slayers, who aside from wanting to keep Quinn and Sara ¿ the Smith and the Seer -- from realizing their firestorm, want to eradicate humans from the planet. Quinn, a self-proclaimed loner, must learn to work together with the other Pyr in order to save Sara, as well as a revered female dragon called the Wyvern, and win this battle against the Slayers. As love heals Quinn¿s soul, he learns that his talents as the Smith can heal his fellow Pyr..... I normally don¿t read the paranormal genre, but I¿m a big fan of Cooke¿s medieval romances, as well as her contemporary fiction novels (written under Claire Delacroix and Claire Cross respectively), so I was eager to give this first book in her new series a try. I wasn¿t disappointed. Cooke does a fantastic job of building a world where the ancient dragon species co-exist with unsuspecting humans. This contemporary urban fantasy is rich in character and dark in tone ¿ it¿s also exciting and fast-paced. You¿re immediately drawn to the ensemble cast of characters from Erik, the Pyr¿s leader, to Donovan, whose story is next in the Dragonfire series (I can¿t wait!). I highly recommend KISS OF FIRE and look forward to the rest of the series.

From the last comment this book was given I had to think about wasting money on this book. But then another comment said that it gets better through out the series so I bought the book expecting the worst. In fact it wasn't at all to bad. The romance scenes weren't that....well described as other books may have it but I liked the book because of all the action that happened and I also liked the playfulness of the book. It's a fast pacing book and i enjoied the scenes with the dragons and the different points of views it had....even though it was a little hard to tell when it did change views but you could figure it out. It was a good book but if you dont like it the series gets better.

The idea for Dragon shape-shifters is what originally caught my interest, but sadly it didn't live up to my expectations. The writing was so poor that I could more easily believe that dragons are real than some of the dialog that was going on. Furthermore, if a romance isn't going to be written well, the least it could have is some great...ahem...erotic scenes, but it lacked there too. Overall, if you want a great paranormal romance read, try "Full Moon Rising" by Keri Arthur and "Blue Moon" by Lori Handeland - they were much better!

I came across this book and found it intriguing because I've never read about dragons before. It was a good story but I wasn't that excited about the characters. Sara was a good character although for someone who was around mythical and spiritual beliefs from her aunt and mother, it didn't make sense that her character was so disbelieving of things that were happening. Quinn's character bugged me the most. He was so hot and cold. For someone who met their destined mate, he seems so uninterested. He vows to protect her but every time something happens to her he is never around, and pretty much just wants to get in her pants. Yes the story changes towards the end but there is just that lacking connections between the characters. The other dragon shifters seem more interesting and I will continue to read the series to find out more about them.

I started to read book 7, Embers Kiss, but was confused. Went to book 6 Flashfire ( or are those books 7 & 8?!). So here I am at Book one. I am reading for 2nd time on a Nook Color that I have owned for nearly 2 years. ONLY problem(s) that I havent been able to get past page 125, off and on for past two hours! I want to read about Quinn/the Smith & Sara/the Seer and about the Pyr and their leader. Good book if I could read again. Has anyone read a book on their Nook devices more than once? Read this book and others in series, they are great

This book is the first of the series for me. I fell in love with the characters, the action and the whole idea that we have no idea what really exists out there. I have already purchased the next book and can't wait to get started!
