About the Author

George Douglas Lee entered a second grade art contest and never looked back. During his college years, Lee discovered rock n' roll, became a lead singer, toured the country and somehow finished his BFA in commercial art and graphic design. He worked in acrylic, oil, mixed media and sculpture. In addition to his adventures in art, he was a performing song writer, published and produced playwright, scriptwriter, actor, public speaker radio host, history tour guide and avid gardener. He was featured on-camera commentator for the History Channel and the Smithsonian Channel "America's Deadliest Disaster", a documentary about the Galveston 1900 Storm. He wrote and illustrated four children's books, based on his musicals, which led to his induction into the Texas Playwright Hall of Fame. His plays published by Lazy Bee Scripts are produced around the world.

Karla Mock started her art and jewelry journey while pursuing a graphic design degree at Texas Tech University. With a master's degree in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the University of Houston, she is owner of Mock & More Gallery, graphic artist consultant and teaches jewelry art at Galveston College. She is the inspiration behind repurposing a 1904 Louis Comfort Tiffany glass window that shattered during Hurricane Ike in 2008 selecting those she transforms into one-of-a-kind wearable art. Initiated by the Trinity Episcopal Church, the Phoenix Project art jewelry is sold to support communities struck by disaster.
