This booked helped give us a baseline of where to start. Lots of great info!
This book’s tagline, “How to Start Trading Penny Stocks and Make Money” is definitely an attention getter. The reality is that this is a short book which gives a good brief overview and some pointers for determining whether penny stock trading is for you, or whether it is best left to someone else. I’ve heard about penny stock trading at various times but never really knew what it meant. With the help of this short book, I was able to at least get a very basic idea of the difference between penny stock trading and what most people know as stock trading. The author does a fair job of breaking down a complex topic. Of the seven chapters in the book, three are dedicated to explaining penny stocks vs. regular stocks. I like that the author pulled no punches in terms of the work involved in trading penny stocks. In fact, one whole chapter is spent on research, with helpful tips and resources included. Two chapters focus on whether one should hire a broker or risk trading on one’s own. The reality check with which the author hits the reader is that going it on one’s own is practically a full time job – if one wishes to have any success at all with penny stock trading. Finally, at the end of the book, the author offers a respectable list of resources for brokers, newsletters and tip sites, and other various tools and software. As might be expected, at the beginning of the book, there is the obligatory statement of the risks of penny stock trading and caution to proceed at one’s own risk. But, it was the last sentence of the caution that caught my attention. There is actually a warning that the book contains strong language that might be viewed as “harsh” by some…in a penny stock trading how-to book? What purpose does that serve? Sure enough, on several pages I came across the use of curse words and vulgar slang phrases to get a point across. While I am not a prude, I see no reason for anything like this in a professional how-to book. It simply reduces the author’s professionalism and credibility. However, overall, this is a relatively well written and well thought out book that gives the novice a fair overview of penny stock trading.
The Know-Series Know Penny Stock Trading: How to Start Trading Penny Stocks and Make Money I am still undecided a bout whether I’ll act on it, but this book gave me the confidence, at least in the process, to feel comfortable trading. It’s specific in mentoring and from the opening pitch I could hear Leo DiCaprio as the narrator. The Know-Series authors used a scattering of colorful Jordan Belfort quotes throughout the guide. I was initially caught off-guard by the language, so be warned. It was a little distracting at first, but not offensive. I certainly didn’t expect to see “wet dream” and “NASDAQ” in the same sentence. If I were to get into penny trading, it would be as a supplemental thing — a side activity. That’s what it would have to be. “Know Penny Stock Trading” infers that to succeed, you should go all-in with your time. The companies being traded at this level are tiny, significant change can alter their destiny quickly and you need to know when it happens. Immediately. The book’s initial pitch is to somebody looking to make a primary income trading penny stocks. Warren Buffett is used as a success story, making $30,000 every 1.2 minutes last year. I’m not so sure Berkshire Hathaway is an afterthought to penny stocks for Warren Buffett. The Know-Series writers do a phenomenal job of laying out the process. In less than a half-hour during my lunch break, I learned how penny trading happens. It makes sense. I think I could follow this simple guide and succeed. The exciting thing about penny stocks for me would be watching a start-up/struggling company turnaround and find success. But in the end, the last paragraph of the title page might sum it up best. “Penny stock trading is very risky, and should be proceeded so at your own risk.” It’s a risky investment, but one with a ton of potential. I haven’t decided if I’m going to make the jump, but this book gave me a realistic expectation.
This is the best written book on penny stocks that I have read. To start it goes over the basics of what a penny stock is and how to get into trading them. The author gives resources along the way with sites that you essentially will need in the penny stock trading world. He goes into detail and the steps in choosing the stocks for your portfolio yourself but also covers finding a broker to work with you. After reading this book I realized the fees that go with a broker and decided to put in more research on doing it myself. He has provided that information on software, tools and other items I will need to take on that task. Overall I recommend the book to anyone looking to get into penny stocks. It has provided me the information, tools and also websites that I can refer. It will give you enough knowledge that in turn will minimize your risks. The book itself is a great tool that you will want to go back to time after time.
