About the Author

R.L. Syme has worked with kids in various non-profit settings that involve music, theater, dance, food, and after-school fun. A former communications director and consultant, she holds advanced degrees in literature, leadership, and theology. Of course, her life followed that natural progression into writing kissing books. Duh. She currently vacillates between contemporary foodie romance and historical Scottish romance because they are also obviously related things.

This is a good read. I liked it so much I read the whole way through. Rebecca has some of the most realistic people here with a very busy plot. This story is set in Scotland, post Wallace. Lachlan, the Clan Laird of McLeod, needs to bring safety from feuds. He decides to steal and marry the Earl's daughter, who thinks he owns the Castle. There are so many spoilers it is hard to keep track of who goes where. Some places are so serious that it comes across as a comedy of errors. Lady Evangeline and Cairean love each other. Lachlan is mad they are harming the Clan. BIG Spoiler. There is a big spoiler over Lachlan and Elsa. They figure out how to save the end of this story but I'll never tell. You will have to grab this story and find out on your own. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!  I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.

Life is such an adventure! And in this story, R.L. Syme lets us follow a headstrong hero that soon discovers even the best laid plans often fail. Full of pride for his land, protectiveness of his clan, and love of his family, Lachlan must make decisions that will change the lives of all those around him, even if his gut tells him that some of his actions could be considered wrong. I really enjoyed watching the heroes true character evolve as the author tortures him with consequences from the actions of other characters. Intrigue, tender moments, and unexpected romance....this story has it all. I have not read anything else by R.L.Syme, but this was a great stand-alone story even though it's part of a series (The Highland Renegades). I will be watching for her future releases.

In this one your learn sometimes the worst mistake turns out to be the best mistake of your life. Lachlan was set out for vengeance and he believed he could have it by kidnapping Lady Evangeline. This book has intrigue, mystery, and romance.  Lachlan  is a good hero material because even though the things he does are questionable he has integrity that redeems him.

A highlander story with plenty of adventure. Lachlan is out for vengeance and is willing to do almost anything to get it. The story is funny and entertaining but I would have preferred a little more heat between the characters, he may be a grandfather but he isn’t dead. The story kept me entertained throughout, funny and adventurous. If you are looking for a sweet highland romance than I highly recommend.

An Exciting, Fast Paced Highlander Story! Lachlan’s Revenge is the first book of R.L. Syme I have read. It is the final book in her Highland Renegades series and focuses on Lachlan MacLeod, the leader of his MacLeod clan. I have not read a lot of Highlander books in the past (I know, I know… where have I been???) so this was a fun new-ish world for me.  The plot of the story moves very fast, and I don’t want to give anything away since there are many twists and turns from the very first chapter. Essentially Lachlan has planned to kidnap the daughter of a neighboring English earl who has been awarded Lachlan’s land by the English King. Lachlan does not honor the English King’s command because he in Scotland and does not believe the king has any jurisdiction over Scottish land ownership. By kidnapping and forcing the earl’s daughter into marriage Lachlan believes the earl will have no choice but to back down from trying to take over Lachlan’s castle and surrounding land. Needless to say, this plan goes awry very early in the book.  This was an enjoyable fast read for me. The plotline was exciting and kept me engaged. The love story was sweet. It wasn’t a steamy love story, but one built on mutual understanding and respect. There is not a love scene at all in the book, and the language is very clean, so if you are one who likes loves stories that leave the physical part off-page this one is for you. If you are someone who likes a bit of “romance” with their romance don’t expect that here. All-in-all a sweet story that has a nice plot. If you liked the other three in the series, I can’t see you being disappointed with this one. ~This book was graciously provided to me for an honest review via NetGalley.~
