I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. A peek back in time showing what life used to be like in Scotland. The backstabbing, the intrigues, the clan allegiances, and the happy times. There was some humor along with all the serious stuff going on. A very enjoyable book.
Reviewed by Rabia Tanveer for Readers' Favorite Lady of the Loch by John C. Ryan is a fast paced historical novel. Paden is betrothed to a man she has never seen in her life. But her father thinks he is the best match for her and she accepts the decision like any good daughter. One day, she is swimming in the loch with her brother nearby. However, she almost drowns! Her rescuer comes in the form of a man who is accused of murdering his own twin brother to get lairdship of the lands. But can a man who rescues a stranger murder his own brother in cold blood? Faolin Mac Court a.k.a the Black Knight needs to prove his innocence because he believes someone is trying to get him killed. When he learns that the life of the woman he rescued is in danger, he cannot stand back and let it happen. The war between England and Scotland is just around the corner and with enemies unknown and everywhere, these lovers will have to be careful about who they believe and what they can do to protect each other. When I was done reading this novel, I realized that sometimes a fast paced novel with insta-love can be good too. The story was fast, but I did not feel that it needed more time. Why slow down when everything is perfect in the fast lane? The characters were well developed and Faolin was super cool. Paden is a female character who does not lack confidence or strength. She is ready to do battle for Faolin and vice versa. All in all, this was a wonderful romance. I love everything to do with Scotland and this quenched my thirst for the place!
