Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Natalie Gurr
Why didn’t the crab share his toys with his little brother? Because he was a little shellfish. Did you hear about the owl that lost its voice? It didn’t give a hoot. Children love a good joke and Dahl’s book provides plenty of humorous quips that will appeal to young readers. Jokes are divided into sections and are accompanied by creative, black and white illustrations. The formatting is upbeat and engaging. Children will love the “One + One” jokes that mix animals for hilarious results, and they will appreciate the nonsensical humor of the “Hinky Pinkies.” “Toon Time” shows off silly comics and enhances the novelty of the book. A cool “Flipplin’ Out” section at the end demonstrates how to create a brief animation. There is even a step-by-step guide to drawing a goofy cartoon bear. The “Laff-O-Tronic” series would make a fun addition to any personal or public library. Joke books keep reading fresh, especially for reluctant readers. Each book in the series focuses on a different topic so students can pick the subject they find most interesting. Everyone could use a good, clean laugh, and the “Laff-O-Tronic” books are just what the doctor ordered. Reviewer: Natalie Gurr; Ages 7 to 12.

Meet the Author

Michael Dahl is the prolific author of the bestselling Goodnight, Baseball picture book and more than 200 other books for children and young adults. He has won the AEP Distinguished Achievement Award three times for his nonfiction, a Teacher's Choice award from Learning magazine, and a Seal of Excellence from the Creative Child Awards. And he has won awards for his board books for the earliest learners, Duck Goes Potty and Bear Says "Thank You!" Dahl has written and edited numerous graphic novels for younger readers, authored the Library of Doom adventure series, the Dragonblood books, Trollhunters, and the Hocus Pocus Hotel mystery/comedy series. Dahl has spoken at schools, libraries, and conferences across the US and the UK, including ALA, AASL, IRA, and Renaissance Learning. He currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota in a haunted house.

Michael Laughead spent his childhood drawing Frodo, Ninja Turtles, and almost any other characters he read about or imagined. Somewhere in the middle of all those drawings, Michael realized he wanted to create artwork for the rest of his life. Michael currently illustrates for teen and children's magazines, designs tee shirts, makes posters, and creates comics. He now resides in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with his wife and daughter.

If he wasn't spending all his time as an astronaut, formula one driver, millionaire philanthropist, renowned adventurer and famous masked Mexican wrestler, El Tigre, Doug would most likely fill the hours as a freelance illustrator, comic artist and toy designer based in Melbourne, Australia. When he finds a moment to spare between searching for the lost city of El Dorado and fighting pirate hoardes, he likes to think he would spend it with his craft obsessed girlfriend and two moth eating cats.
