Laguna Treasure: A Virginia Davies Mystery by David Ciambrone

Virginia Davies, a graduate student in history is embroiled in an unclassic adventure involving a hoard of gold, thieves and a ring of smugglers in a plot that almost costs Virginia and her friends their lives. Laguna Treasure begins in 1933 in a watery cave in the coastal mountains of Southern California. Sixty plus years later, an antique dealer friend of Virginia’s, Abbey McQueen, provides a clue that launches Virginia on a perilous adventure. Virginia finds her life is placed in jeopardy by a group of thieves interested in gaining her treasure at any cost. People she contacts keep turning up dead. She and Dr. Andy Clark, her boyfriend and Professor of Engineering, plunge headlong into a vicious, no-holds-bared, seemingly non-ending struggle to what could be a one way journey to survive.

This story really moves. Virginia Davies, the main character is exactly that, a chracter. It starts out in a compeling manner and keeps going. If only I could be like her. My husband wants to meet the person she was modeled after. The story is great, lots of twists and great descriptions. I felt like I was there.

I originally thought this was a 'girls' novel. Boy was I wrong! The story is riviting. I didn't think the lead character could get into so many difficulties. She goes from one tight experience to another. Tension is broken up by some well placed humor. The mix of fact and fiction is done very well. You can't help chearing for the good guys and hiss at the villans. It is a fast pace mystery-action adventure that would make an outstanding movie. The publisher's editing could be a little better, but I've read books from the major houses that have some editing errors in them. It didn't distract from the suspence or enjoyment. Great book. I hope more of the Virginia Davies mysteries will be coming out soon.

This book is billed as a mystery and in reality is a combination of mystery and adventure. A major difference between this book and others is the lead character. It's a spunky, intellegent woman with a lot of charm, charater and energy. I found the biggest problem with it was not being able to put it down. I hope other books with Virginia Davies will be published in the near future. Enjoyed the laed charater's wit. Story has a lot of fast paced action, romance and murder. I loved the settings. Good mix of facts and fiction.
