Lake Effect by Johannah Bryson

Shelby Aylesworth knows what real love feels like. She also knows the pain of losing that kind of love. With her faithful collie dog, Norman, she takes refuge on Whiskey Island to try to put her life back together. When Norman arranges a most unusual introduction to the island’s newest resident, Shelby finds herself wondering if it isn’t time to stop grieving and start living.

Wyeth Packard has come to Whiskey Island under the guise of restoring and making profitable an old vineyard and manor house. What he really wants is some peace and quiet away from the fast pace of NYC. Being considered one of the city’s most eligible has thrown him into the path of every gold digging society princess out there. He longs to find a balance but has given up on ever finding a woman who will love him for who he is, not what he has.

Together they navigate the slippery slope of what it means to begin again. Can a new love fill the void left by an old love?

I used to read book after book before college, but did very little reading for fun during that time. While waiting for a book I ordered online to arrive, I wanted a short romance to get me back into the rhthym. This book was perfect and it made very excited to dive back into reading - I loved the story, the way the author wrote it, and the fact that I couldn't put it down!

I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved Norman! The only thing I got tired of was her taking everything at face value. Enjoyed the book!

This was perfect for a quick read. It really caught my attention and kept me wanting more. I couldn't put the book down. If your looking to finish something on a weekend getaway trip or you're busy and want to be able to finish a book within a week this is your novel! For day's after I finished the book I kept thinking about the characters.......I loved the reference to all the North East Ohio locations as well. Great New Author I look forward to more of her work.

Lake Effect is a fun and enjoyable book that draws you in and makes you want to keep reading.  From the start you feel like you know the characters (including Norman the Collie) and are rooting for them to find happiness and love.  The picturesque descriptions make you actually feel like you are on the shores of Lake Erie.  As a fan of the Great Lakes and island lifestyle I highly recommend, but be aware - once you start you won't be able to put it down!

I loved it! I loved how the characters came together, parted, came together again. I couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next book from Johannah!

Not much of a plot. At 112 pages, really a novella.

a barn burner, or a swashbuckler, and not a steamy romance
