Overview

Kate McAdams was forced six years ago to leave her beloved hometown of Willow Valley, leaving behind her family and the only man she’s ever loved, Marc Caliendo. Although she has created a new life for herself away from the drama, secrets and stress of the small town, she must return upon her grandmother’s death. Her return brings back wonderful memories, especially of Marc, but also horrible fears from the past.

When fate throws her and Marc together once again, how can they ignore the everlasting love and desire between them? Will Kate stay and face her demons or will the deceit and secrets of the past destroy any future they may have and force her to leave again?

This book can be read as a stand alone, but for more enjoyment read them in the order of the series, as all the characters appear in future books.

About the Author

Contemporary romance author Shannyn Leah loves olives, lip gloss and reading (and writing) romance novels. Her love of words started at an early age and soon grew until, during her teenage years, she’d started writing her own novels. When her mom pushed to finally publish some of the stories, she quickly amassed two complete romance series (By The Lake and Caliendo Resort series) and, in 2016, released her first Fantasy Romance entitled The Gatekeepers (Part One of the Winters Rising series).

When she’s not writing contemporary romance books into the early hours of the morning, Shannyn can be found antiquing with her two favorite people, her momma and sister, in their picturesque London, Ontario hometown.

Shannyn would love to get to know her readers as you get to know her (just don’t send her any carrots!)

Fun story, but... There were places when I had to read it over and over again to try to figure out what it said , misplaced clauses, restated clauses, missing something...verb, noun, article, something.

This is not a cliffhanger. Shannyn Leah wrote a romance about young love, and shattered dreams. Marc came from a family of prviledge. Kate's father was a handyman who worked for Marc's family. Marc's father made sure that their relationship ended. Six years later, she does return and what happens is not a surprise. To be honest, there were pages and pages I skipped over. The mainstory was there, but how long did we need to suffer with Kate? If you are looking at an evening of nothing else to do, you could read this story. Q

What happened to the editor? I wonder how this author managed to get published with so many errors...

This is a fun easy read. Full of great family enjoyment, a little drama and humor. All mixed with romance. I recommend reading

The story started ok, but about 2/3 of the way through took a turn for the ridiculous. I muddled through a few more pages, but found myself rolling my eyes so often I finally gave up.

Terrific Kate had to come home after being gone for six years to help her family bury their grandmother. Marc was Kate's one true love, he came from money she didn't. He wasn't suppose to be there. She was suppose to be bringing her cheating ex. But can they work out their past.

Emotional rollar-coaster of a romantic journey filled with danger, family secrets, heart break, longing and betrayal for two small town childhood sweethearts from opposite sides of the tracks. Marcus Caliendo is sweet, shy, geeky, charming and back home to take over the family business after his father passes and is quickly getting frustrated with the things it seams his uncle and mom are trying to hide from him. Kate McAdams is a sexy, sweet and was forced to leave town six years ago with out a word breaking all ties to Marc and hurting her family left behind. (by Marc's father) She is now back put her grandmother to rest and is not sure how to answer the hard questions... Highly entertaining and engaging read, looking forward to more of this series.

I honestly liked reading this book, but did not like all of the secrets. Yes, every one has a past, but usually family members are aware of most of them. In this book I did not like all of the half truths told to family members.

Received an ARC at no cost to author..I am a little upset with myself that I waited so long to get to book, but I got it to it and am thankful that I did. Well as the title states we have secrets and due to these secrets it made life and reconnection difficult for Marc and Kate. The book sucks you in til the end, you continue to turn the pages until you find out what happened and will marc and Kate get their HEA. well I am not going to tell you, you need to read.. Enjoy!

This was my first read from author Shannyn Leah and it won’t be the last. I really enjoyed the story with all the secrets, twist and turns and the love between characters, which were all well written. It’s a story about making choices and learning from your past. The main female character, Katie McAdams, leaves her home and no one hears of her for 6 years until she comes back when her grandmother dies. It also was time to go back after finding out her boss, fiancee is having an affair. One thing she didn’t want to go back to was the only man she truly loved, Marc Caliendo. But going back may just be the thing to do. I read this without the other books prior to it but had no trouble reading it. Of course, now I want to read all the other ones. It is full of mystery, secrets and love which makes for a great book.

Kate McAdams returns to her hometown of Willow Valley after the death of her grandmother. She has not been back home in many years. As we read along we discover there is a lot more at play. Kate was forced to leave town leaving her family and the love of her life, Marc Caliendo behind. There are a lot of hidden secrets. I felt like a detective trying to figure out what the secret was, who was involved, and who could be trusted. It took me a little bit to warm up to Kate as it seemed at first she had a hidden agenda. Once everything starts to unravel and the secrets are told you find out just how strong of a person Kate was and is. I love the fact that Marc and Kate's love for each other didn't die over the years. There is one final secret that could destroy any chance of a future of these two together. It took me by surprise.

I liked this second chance romance because it has plenty of small town ambience that is sure to make this series a lot of fun to read. Both Kate and Marc come from large families and both sets of siblings love to get into all kinds of shenanigans that are typical with siblings and really added to my enjoyment of the story. I loved the OMG moments when shocking family secrets are revealed that have serious consequences for both families because they really threw me for a loop. I have to say I was disappointed to find missing words, misspelled words and duplicated sentences throughout the book and time line mistakes that were very confusing and should have been corrected. There is no excuse for not taking the time for proofreading. I give this book 3 & 3/4 stars.I read a complimentary copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
