I was attracted to the book (on display shelf at the public library) because I hoped it would take me back to the scene. I went (from my home in Columbus, Ohio) to ground zero Thanksgiving weekend of 2001, just a few weeks after 9/11. Saddest time of my life. By the time we got there, NY had put up fences which made it difficult to see the scenes of devastation. This book took me beyond the fences, allowing me to see a fuller picture of the devastation. Why do I rate it only a three? It was more informational than inspiring. It didn't really take me back to the scene. However, for those who haven't been there, it will give you some idea of what it was like. What's missing are the acrid smell, the sounds, and the heavy, depressing feeling. I appreciate the efforts of the author and photographer and would like to see more of the photos.
