Beautifully crafted and still fast paced. I couldn't put it down. Donna Cousins has managed to weave a story of timely intrigue with a vast knowledge of subjects as diverse as horticulture, environmental waste and the banking world. You'll care about Andrea and Mark Grant, a couple thrown into a life crisis which rapidly escalates into terrifying chaos, but it's their daughter, Lindsey, the precocious child who'll grab hold of your heart. (' ebullient seven-year-old who talked the same way she swam--in breathless bursts that propelled her, lickety-split, to the deep end of long sentences.') I had to stay up into the early morning hours to be sure the characters were safe. Thrillers are not normally my favorite books because they tend to be so pace driven that I don't find them well written. Landscape is an exception to this with its magical metaphors and language so perfect I found myself stopping to savor it. How refreshing to read a thriller that was created with such skill and care. Hats off to the talented Ms. Cousins for a sparkling debut novel. One thing I know for sure - from now on I'll be wearing my gloves while I weed my garden!

With this book tucked under my arm, I took a vacation on the North Shore of Superior with my siblings. We all brought the books we have been waiting to read. I kept interrupting their reading, tossing out the similes and metaphors - so delightfully crafted - and entertaining those wise and widely-read folks. They are now waiting in line to be the next to read it. Congratulations to Donna Counsins for a gripping tale and writing that entertains, amuses, and tickles the intellect. When is the next one coming out? I'll be the first in line.

A sprint with a fabulously choreographed denouement, August 24, 2005 Reviewer: Sharon D. Nichols (Lake Charles, LA USA) - See all my reviews I read this book in 2 1/2 days & was always miffed when duty interrupted. Landscape provided me with a 2 1/2 day oasis of pure pleasure. Cousins creates & skillfully maintains throughout the tension of 4 engaging plot lines: a successful man outplaced in mid-life- a protagonist & family we care about his gutsy efforts to buy a high profile business an appalling crime he immediately uncovers that threatens everything he cares about and just as shockingly endangers significant portions of the population of Los Angeles and what our leading man must do to to escape his and others' victimization. More serious than a romp, Landscape is a high stakes sprint with a brilliantly conceived, fabulously choreographed denouement that leaves us laughing & satisfied. Ms. Cousins- what's for dessert?

Move over Ludlum, Martini and Patterson. A new thriller master has burst upon your stage: Say hello to Donna Cousins. And remember that name -- she'll be back. In her auspicious debut novel, the author proves herself an extraordinarily gifted storyteller, delivering a waiting-to-exhale work of suspense that doesn't let go of your eyes until the very last pages. Hint: You don't see the end coming. Cousins' clever package of nonstop surprises could be ripped from today's headlines. In an era of global seismic shifts, Mark Grant is torn from his corporate job in an unexpected downsizing and forced to scramble to pick up the pieces of his family's lifestyle. Choosing entrepreneurship, Grant is stunned to discover what seemed to be a straightforward business venture not only conceals cold-blooded murder but threatens an unspeakable environmental disaster and imminent danger to his family. Talk about a bad day at the office. Welcome to my reading-for-fun world, Donna Cousins. 'Landscape' is a stylish and satisfying read. Can't wait to see it on the big screen!

Just two days after receiving my copy of Landscape, I was, sadly, done. What a wonderfully fun and engaging read. Donna Cousins writes with a charming, witty, sophisticated, and accessible style that draws you in and keeps you riveted. Landscape is a real page-turner, a thriller that had me on the edge of my seat and staying up too late each night. Though I hated to near the end of the book, I found myself unable (unwilling?) to put it down. Will she write another? Let's hope so. Two big thumbs up!

You can almost hear Donna Cousins chuckling at her keyboard even as she creates unspeakable mayhem. I actually had to climb out of bed and find a pencil to write down 'her eyebrows shot up like a pair of hotwired minks.' This is bar none my favorite line, and the competition was fierce. This book rollicks along into thickets of complexity and rising action and double entendre, hitting all its marks but never taking itself too seriously, and then sorts itself out with a beatific smile that reminds you of a Shakespeare ending. Cousins tosses off landscape, banking, and medical terms like exotic dishes at an ethnic restaurant. My eyes kept feasting down the page grabbing at every new flavor and imagining what it might represent.
